Does anyone know anything about operating-ride procedures? For instance, someone getting on a ride like HM or Nemo's Ride drops something (camera, camcorder) onto the track of the ride, and make a CM aware, what is the proper procedure(s) a CM must do? Thanks in advance!

Just be sure to tell them ASAP (and tell them exactly WHERE.)

If the object presents no danger to the ride or riders, the CM will usually refer you to go to Lost and Found later in the day (or the next day.)

Sometimes, a CM MIGHT try to retrieve the object immediately, but that can present some safety issues in many cases.

And after they are made aware that something had dropped, and where it was, what are they supposed to do? Stop the ride and retrieve it? Let you go ahead and "have someone look for it later," even though it was pointed out?

Read the post you quoted. If it doesn't post a danger, then yes, they let you go ahead and you can retrieve your item from lost and found later.

The only part of Robo's answer that showed up on my phone was the part I quoted, I do not know how to pick a part an answer and quote it individually. I then replied and was able to see the rest of the answer. Therefore, it does appear that I didn't read the entire post and ignored a portion of the answer, however, things aren't always as they appear :)

Ahh...okay. Sorry for the snarkiness of the reply.

Either way, you have your answer now.

Last time I was on Buzz Lightyear, my hat fell off my head out of the car and they stopped the ride to go get it. I felt bad for the people stalled, but the CMs were so quick and just did it.

There are many factors. These can include (but are not limited to) which attraction, what was dropped, where on the attraction it was dropped, how crowded the park is.

What is needed is to contact a Cast Member at Unload, and if necessary talk to a coordinator.

At all attractions, after Park Closing, the track is walked by cast looking for dropped articles. they are all taken to Guest Relations and logged in. An immediate attempt is made to m,aztch them up with items reporterd lost to Guest Relations. The, prior to the next day's park opening they are all shipped to Central Lost and Found.

Here is what happened to me this week at the Haunted Mansion ride in the Magic Kingdom: I was getting ready to get on the doom buggy and I had my video camera in my hand, thinking it was secure enough. Well, it slipped out of my hand and fell onto the track of the ride. I panicked and told the CM who was walking along the moving "sidewalk" and she said, "Get on the doom buggy and we'll have someone look for it later." Never directed me to lost and found, never even mentioned lost and found, and didn't seem to care, at all, she just simply said, "we will have someone look for it later." Are you nuts? The queue was about 10 minutes, and the park wasn't busy at all, at least at this ride. So my first thought was, okay, it will take less than 5 minutes for you to stop the ride, let me grab it, and restart the ride. No, I don't think the real world or Disney World revolves around me, however, this was a 450.00 camcorder and I wasn't just gonna "have someone look for it later." I could clearly see it on the track and didn't want it to slip and get run over by another doom buggy. Now, if she would have been more willing to help and told me what would happen, ie, that it would be found and returned to lost and found, I may have been less panicked and less frustrated with the CM. Now, I could see if it was something trivial like a key chain, a souvenir cup, etc. So, I went against what she said, walked across a moving doom buggy - onto the left side of the platform, and she is saying "Ma'am, don't go over there, you can't do that," I picked up my camera, and the ride stopped, then I sat down in the buggy and she walked past me and I did apologize to her as she walked by me and I said, "I'm sorry, I saw my camera and I grabbed it." She didn't look at me, nor acknowledge my apology. I really was sorry that I caused the ride to stop, but I wasn't going to let my camcorder get run over.

First, it is for YOUR SAFETY that they look for it.

Second, to some people a 450.00 camcorder is as trivial as the cup or keychain you mentioned to some people. Why should the ride be stopped due to YOUR carelessness in dropping YOUR camcorder? So because you thought you had a handle on the camcorder and YOU DID NOT, everyone on the ride should be subjected to an E-Stop? Sounds like you think WDW does revolve around YOU

Third, you could have been seriously injured or killed! Do you know how to navigate electrical hazzards? Do you know what hazzards are present? Have you not heard of the number of CM's that have been killed by being in a wrong area of a ride? You really should thank the CM for not having you removed from the park! Your actions could have, by the rules, enabled the CM to call security and have you tosssed out of the park. So, if you are thinking about complaining I would consider how nice they were to you.

First, I wasn't talking about other people, I was talking about myself. I personally would not have cared if it were a cup or a key chain. Secondly, I obviously didn't drop my camcorder on purpose, to disturb others, or cause a scene. It is called an accident, and it can happen to anyone. It's human nature. Third, no, I do not think that WDW revolves around me. And no, in a state of panic, I didn't stop and consider what hazards were present or what could have happened. And no, I haven't heard of CM's being killed, either. I am not thanking this particular CM for anything whatsoever. I am, however, at fault for not following security measures. But at the same time, she could have been a bit more informative. And as another poster stated, they stopped a ride for a hat, I don't see how my situation is any different. If they would have tossed me out, then so be it. My memories on my camcorder are far more important than being kicked out for a day. And complaining was never mentioned, so let's not jump to conclusions. And Disney wants return visits, so I'm sure they wouldn't be as rude as you in handling my complaint. Have a magical day, sir!

You said you thought you had a good grip on it but you didn't. That's not an accident, that's negligence. If you think I'm rude-so be it. YOU dropped YOUR camcorder not me. YOU put YOURSELF at risk not me. YOU disobeyed the rules not me. YOU inconvenienced other guests because of YOUR carelessness not me!

As for the CM's google CM killed at Animal Kingdomfor one. She was killedby being in the wrong spot in the loading zone.

If you were not going to complain why did you come here seeking the "proper procedure" for this type of incident?

1. The CM probably did not acknowledge your apology becuase they new it was insincere and you did exactly what you wanted to ignoring the rules, them, and any common sense or safety precautions.

2. Better they ignored you at that point then followed procedure and called security. Bottom line, they decide when a ride should or should not be stopped not a guest.

My camera fell out of my pocket when I was getting off the boat on IASW, landing in the water...like OP, I thought it was secure. I could see it there and told the CM....but there was NO WAY I was going to stick my hand in that water with the moving part at the loading area nor did I expect the ride to stop. I was just hoping that had some type of grabbers to get it out for me. The CM directed me to Guest Services who gave me a card that had L&F's # on it. Since I was still there for 10 more days, I check with L&F several times but they never retrieved it. I was just hoping to get the memory card...it had my dd's first haircut at the Barber Shop on it. I was terribly disappointed but never blamed anyone nor took any risks - that's just plain stupid.

I am really sorry you lost that. But on a positive note you will always have the memory of that 1st haircut.

Yes....and the hair - wrapped up neatly in tissue with a Mickey sticker; and her "First Hair Cut" Mickey ear hat..:goodvibes They were just awesome.

Certainly not negligence, it was an accident, they happen everyday, and I'm sure they've also happened to you on plenty occasions. I'm not saying that it is anyone's fault by my own either, I take full responsibility dropping my camcorder and going against what the CM said. And again, admittedly I should not have gone against what she said, but at the same time, she should have explained a bit more on what was going to be done. So let's play you did this, not me, always fun, right? Kind of brings me back to kindergarten! lol Oh simple life and people were back then. I don't see why some people just love to stir up the pot and be snarky! If I did inconvenience any guest, it was less than 5 minutes. Anyone could say the people in wheelchairs are a bother because they get to get on the bus properly and my child is tired, etc, etc. I'm not saying this is me, but anything could inconvenience anyone. Actually, the third time we went on this ride (my camcorder was safe in my backpack this time) we were stopped for about 3 minutes, I wasn't irritated or feeling inconvenienced, because anything could have happened. But that is just me, and I try to take most situations or people with a grain of salt. Key word :TRY. But why are you jumping to conclusions and assuming that I'm going to complain because I posted this question? I was trying to get answers, and maybe similar experiences, and what had happened in their situation. Oh - P.S. you catch more bees with honey than you do vinegar!!

It really wasn't insincere - after the fact and after I was calmed, I realized what I had did was wrong. It was wrong to go against the CM, it was late at night, and I'm sure this was the last thing she wanted to deal with. I am making no excuses for myself whatsoever. I am just saying, I wish she would have been more informative on what the procedures were to retrieving my camcorder if I would have went ahead. I am not asking for sympathy. Was just curious to know what the procedures were, and if it had happened to anyone else, because I'm sure as people did, would share an experience they had similar to mine.

I would have been disappointed too! Cameras certainly aren't cheap and a lot of memories were captured on them. Glad you weren't as "stupid" as me! haha But being stupid got me my camcorder back, but thank God no one including myself was injured because of my lack of following rules.
