Are we allowed to take pictures of our rides pictures (ex. Splash Mountain, the drop) with our cellphones or is that forbidden and we MUST buy the Memory Maker?

:tinker:Thanks!

You are allowed to take photos on rides but some don't allow flash photography. I'm not sure I'd want to risk losing my phone on Splash Mountain to try and take a pic on the drop though.

You don't have to have Memory Maker to purchase these pictures either. You can have them taken and buy them individually if you wanted to. But if doing a lot of them Memory Maker can work out to be cheaper.

My family has been doing this for years (in front of CMs) and no one has ever told us not to do it. It's probably ok.

It is allowed, but it's just frowned upon. There are "watermarks" on the photos so you're not obviously going to get the best picture. What you can always do is view your photos in the MDE app even if you didn't purchase Memory Maker. You can screenshot them from there, but they will still have the watermarks.

Also note that some of the newer rides don't even have monitors at the end. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Frozen Ever After just show the photos on your account. The monitors have water marks on them anyway so they're not great. I don't think the CMs want you to do it, but I have never once seen them reprimand anybody for it. I think they just accept it an an inevitability.. You can always review the photos on the website after your trip and just buy the ones you want.

Oh oops, I'm talking about taking a picture of the picture they took on the drop that you can see once you exit the ride (and you normally scan your MagicBand)

Yep, that's my experience too. I can't tell you how many people I see take out their cell phones at the end of ToT and take pictures of the monitor. It's been a few years, but one trip we had at least 100 pictures linked to our account. I did screen shot save all of them...took some time. They all have watermarks on them, so I'd never use them for display, but they're still memories.

So OP, yes, you can do that. People do it on Splash Mountain too.

Another question (oops)

Will they take pictures of us (ex. in front of the castle) with our camera if we ask nicely? It obviously depends if the CMs are nice or grumpy or are the photos taken only with their camera?

they have no problem doing that.

I love Memory Maker and feel it is worth every penny. I know there are different opinions though. The quality you will receive is much better than watermarked photos, the "magic" shots are quite enjoyable, and the cast member has been trained how to take decent photos with that camera. This may not be the case with the camera they are asked to use for a few seconds to take a photo. For the first time, we purchased annual passes this year and found that memory maker was included. It just made the passes that much more worthwhile for us!

If you mean can you take a picture in the wall of photos at the exit? You can, they don't like it, but keep in mind it usually has something on the photo that makes it hard to really get a good look at everyone.
They want you to get the number off the photo and go to the counter to see it. There they will not allow you to take a photo of it.
We were looking at a picture at Everest, my phone vibrated so I looked at it, the cm used her hands to cover the photo and said you can't take a picture of this! I said uhh I'm just reading a text that just came in. She actually closes out the photo and said it wasn't going to be available.

No bother. It showed up on my MDE.

Once you have a photo taken, there will be an option in the MDE mobile app to purchase a 1 day version of Memory Maker for $59.

If you have already bought MM do the pics that show up on your account still have the watermark? I know a couple of years back I had MM and the pics showed up but all had the mark on them, it was frustrating.

Did you link Memory Maker to your account ?

Yes I think I did, it was a couple of years ago so maybe I didn't do it correctly. I have a trip in May and have MM already and it shows up on my online MDE account, but not the app. I'll wait and see how it works when I get there.

Best of luck! Happy vacation !:earboy2:

Being a picture lover and disney lover, I will buy the photo mostly for the better quality than a cell phone photo.
Can't beat awesome disney memories!:yay:

I know my grandsons were disappointed that there was no wall of photos at the end of 7 dwarfs but when I checked account at the end of night there they were
