Ride help needed

First off I want to say that we are a family of chickens and we are trying to progress in our list of rides.

Last time we increased our ride list by adding the Matterhorn, and Splash Mountain. My 8 year old did not enjoy the big drop on Splash Mountain, but will live through it because she likes the rest of the ride. We would like to take another step up, but I am not sure which rides to add because I have only been on the same rides as DD, therefore I am asking for your help. Below is a list of our considerations:

Big Thunder Mountain
Indiana Jones
Star Tours
Grizzly River Run
Soarin'

My dd has already said no to Space Mountain and almost all of the rides at DCA. She also will not try Astro Orbits or the Sun Wheel, because they are too high.

Your input on the above rides or any others not listed would be appreciated!

FYI DD favorite rides are Haunted Mansion, Pirates, and Matterhorn.

Thanks from a bunch of chickens!

i'd suggest star tours and soarin'... i'm scared of a lot of rides due to sensitive stomach, and these rides are pretty easy on me.

Soarin' is a nice gentle ride. My 3 year old was afraid of a lot rides and LOVED soarin'. A minute or two into it he was smiling an let go of my arm. If she is afraid if heights it might be a bit scary, just remind her she can close her eyes and its just a movie.

If she likes matterhorn, Big thunder should be fine. Its a bit smoother, and doesn't have the scary monster.

Star tours: simulator ride. Does make some people motion sick. Its not scary in terms of content, but you do get a bounced around. Not us much as Indy though.

Grizzly river has a couple pretty good drops. Both my kids love it. We went twice, back to back. Not fast or terribly scary other then the drops.

Indy is pretty bouncy. There are not big hills, and it doesnt go as fast a roller coaster. But, it does really bounce you around and there are some dark parts.

I can totally relate to the heights thing, I get scared on Dumbo! I was really nervous about Soarin', but after the first couple of minutes I was ok. Star Tours tends to cause motion sickness for me and it is a little rough. I try to remember to take Bonine and then I am ok. I do not like roller coasters, especially ones that make me feel like I am going to fly out. I tried Mulholland Madness and hated it! But I love Space Mountain! Maybe because it is dark and I can't see that I am up high, plus the turns are banked so I don't feel like I will fly out. I like it a lot more than Big Thunder. I would never try to talk a kid into a ride that might scare them, though, so wait until DD is ready. Big Thunder is a good next step after Matterhorn. I don't think there is anything scary about Grizzly, but you may get totally soaked so be prepared for that. It is really fun.

My DS-almost 8 is also a bit of a chicken on roller coaster type rides. He rode Star Tours a few months ago and didn't like it. Even though it doesn't actually go anywhere, it feels like it. He LOVES Soarin'. I almost had to drag him on, but he loved it enough to go again.

Of the rides you listed, I think Grizzly River is the least scary.

I also love BTMRR--this from someone who hates Space Mountain and hasn't tried California Screaming yet.

Splash Mountain scares the bejeezus out of me, but I love it.

Thank you for all of your responses! It is so hard to know with kids. I keep trying to ask her what she is actually scared of, so I will know which rides to avoid. I have not really told her that much about soarin', so I think I am just going to get in line with her on that one and see how she handles it.

CLuck Cluck (thank you!)

Wow, I have a chicken DD6 (as well as myself  ) and we've NEVER gone on Splash Mountain. Kudos on that!

Orr ride experiences are WDW-based, but we've gone on Thunder Mountain. Both my DDs (youngest was 3 at the time) LOVED it, and went on multiple times. They also loved the Grizzly-run version at Animal Kingdom. It's supposedly a little tamer than DL. Both rides didn't have much in terms of "drop" feel to them. The girls also loved Soarin', but Mommy is a little unnerved by heights so we did this only once. I would still do it each time we go because it is a great "experience."

I didn't take my girls on Star Tours, but I tried it pre-children and I din't like it. I get motion sickness easily :crazy2: , and they forgot to turn off the lights the time I rode.

The ride I will absolutely not go on again is the Tower of Terror, but I don't like drops.

Our rule is try it once, if you hate it you never have to do it again! Space mountain was great because they could not see it from the outside and loved it when they rode it! My 6 year old went on TOT for a $10.00 bribe and said he will not do it again...that is the rule! My 9 year old refuses to try it and I would not force him either! I won't do the maliboomer and dh hates to get wet so no rapids for him.

Star Tours is not scary but I'm claustrophobic so it's very "scary" to me! It also makes me sick from the motion sickness. But my DS6 loves it and it is his favorite ride!!

My DD4 really likes Tower of Terror but, again, I won't go on that. DS6 goes on it but gets scared.

DS6 went on Space Mountain and said never again.

Soarin' is a very easy and gentle ride but if you're afraid of heights, you might not like it because you're up in the air.

Grizzly River Run is not "scary" but will get you very wet!

Have fun!
