I know that I can count on the DIS fans to help me.

I'm traveling with my DDad to WDW in April. Dad is confined to an ECV while in the parks. I have park maps of MK, AK, and EPCOT and these maps list the rides that allow one to remain in the ECV, but I was wondering if there are rides that are more difficult with an ECV than others.

If you have any experience or have seen someone having problems with a ride, please post. I would like to be able to give DDad "fair warning" if he will have difficulty.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

There are "attractions" that allow you to remain in the ECV, but I can't think of an actual "ride" (as in a moving vehicle) that allows it. Most rides require transfer to thier manual wheelchair. Transferring gets very tiring for my DH after a while. Other than the transferring difficulties, all attractions that allow the ECV are quite accessible.

If you haven't checked out the disABILITIES FAQs thread, there are some links in the 3rd post that will be helpful for you. One of the links is to a past thread about rides with moving walkways.

For more information, it would be helpful to know a little more about what sorts of diffuculties you think he might have. For example,
- can he walk well, but just not distances?
- is he unsteady at all (that would make boarding rides with moving walkways a bit more of a problem)?
- does he have problems getting up and down from things that are chair level?
- what about things where he would have to step down or up?

Normally a person is not "confined" to an ECV, as one is "confined" to a wheelchair, but uses it to overcome a mobility problem. They will have the ability to walk, sometimes needing someone/something to hold on and/or crutches.

If he can transfer and walk about 30 feet he should be able to board and ride most attractions. Some he might require assistance to get in and seated, or get out of.

The most difficulty would be those such as Space Mountsain where you go down into the seat (which is below floor level).
