I've been working on a ride for about as long as I've been playing this game (nearly a year now) and am looking for some advice as I near completion. So, here are a few random and unconnected questions that I was hoping you experts might be able to help me with:

1) What can you do to stop guests getting off in the middle of the ride? Does raising the track work, or do you have to line every inch of track with scenery?

2) How do you make the most of your 'empty' space (i.e. the area without track in it)? Does anyone have any 'tips of the trade' on making it look exciting and interesting?

3) how do you stop people entering rooms that are in the middle of your ride? Do you just block off the entrance, or is it possible to stop them from appearing on the rooms list, whilst still allowing guests to ride through?

4) What do people feel are the most important elements in a good ride?

5) Is there anything else I should ask / be told, to make this ride one to be proud of?

Thanks in advance for any advice! I'm waiting until the Christmas stuff comes out before I open this, but I'll let you know when the thing is finally up and running!

It depends. Fantasyland Dark Rides don't let riders get off, but I'm not entirely sure about the others.

Ask Aengus :rotfl:

There used to be/is a bug that placed people at the entrance of a room upon arrival through a teleporter. You might want to have an alternate route from the doors in order for those that have been kicked off the ride involuntarily. There is no way to block people from coming into the room from the rooms list whilst still letting them ride through it. Ask anyone who's ridden the DIS river :rotfl:

4) What do people feel are the most important elements in a good ride?

The track and scenery are the two most important things (in retrospect, there are probably the ONLY two things :rotfl: )

5) Is there anything else I should ask / be told, to make this ride one to be proud of?

Throw a party the day you open the ride. In my experience, everything else will fall into place if you have a bunch of friends in the room.

Sorry for the lazy-looking layout

Other than alice rides you do have to block it off. Try to find something to match the surrounding. Crates, lamps, tree trunks, bottles, campfires. Something that almost hides into your scenery or enhances the theme :)

2) How do you make the most of your 'empty' space (i.e. the area without track in it)? Does anyone have any 'tips of the trade' on making it look exciting and interesting?

Ask Cardinal ROFL. Nevermind, the empty space between Cardinal's ears is not interesting at all :rotfl: . I dont have any tips to throw at you, but this is probably the most important part other than the ride itself. This is where your theming is most important and the difference between a good ride and a great ride. Once the riders eyes have taken in the section of track they are going to be riding on, their eyes will next wonder to the room itself.

3) how do you stop people entering rooms that are in the middle of your ride? Do you just block off the entrance, or is it possible to stop them from appearing on the rooms list, whilst still allowing guests to ride through?

2 Different things to keep in mind. Do you expect people to get bumped on your ride? If you do, you would like to somewhat hide the entrance but make it so they can get back on someplace. If you dont expect it will be much of a problem, then block it and hide the entrance altogether. This is easy on rooms with an entrance towards the top of the screen, not easy on the bottom entrances
4) What do people feel are the most important elements in a good ride?

track layout & themeing

5) Is there anything else I should ask / be told, to make this ride one to be proud of?

Sounds like you put your back into it so to speak, so I can't imagine any reason not to be thrilled for your accomplishment! :thumbsup2

Cant wait to see it!!! :thumbsup2

You would need to line every inch, there are some cheap and easy things like explorer supplies, they are very small and 50 credits.

2) How do you make the most of your 'empty' space (i.e. the area without track in it)? Does anyone have any 'tips of the trade' on making it look exciting and interesting?

Just put a simple item, something that has to do with theme. When in doubt the parrot palm tree looks good almost every where.

3) how do you stop people entering rooms that are in the middle of your ride? Do you just block off the entrance, or is it possible to stop them from appearing on the rooms list, whilst still allowing guests to ride through?

The only thing you can do is block entrance. Some rooms let you but a ride track that is more than one space (Like a up and down piece) on a exit tile. You must have one space on exit and one space on a normal tile. Then have those lead to the start room.

4) What do people feel are the most important elements in a good ride?

I feel you need a rock solid theme.

5) Is there anything else I should ask / be told, to make this ride one to be proud of?

Don't give up!

Thanks in advance for any advice! I'm waiting until the Christmas stuff comes out before I open this, but I'll let you know when the thing is finally up and running!

Hope this helps!

1) What can you do to stop guests getting off in the middle of the ride? Does raising the track work, or do you have to line every inch of track with scenery?

As others have said, small inexpensive items work well for blocking. The explorer's lanterns are especially nice, in my opinion.

2) How do you make the most of your 'empty' space (i.e. the area without track in it)? Does anyone have any 'tips of the trade' on making it look exciting and interesting?

I've always started with a room scene first, then added ride track around it. Have never been able to manage it in the other order. :p

3) how do you stop people entering rooms that are in the middle of your ride? Do you just block off the entrance, or is it possible to stop them from appearing on the rooms list, whilst still allowing guests to ride through?

Again, as others have said, being able to get back on if you get bumped off is important. Although diverting players to the ride start room with teleporters is a cool idea, that can get pretty expensive with multiple rooms. If you're worried about people missing some of it, just loop your ride.

4) What do people feel are the most important elements in a good ride?

These days, with the time it takes for all of the blue boxes to disappear, it's more important than ever to make sure the ride does not exit each room too quickly.

5) Is there anything else I should ask / be told, to make this ride one to be proud of?

Just have fun making it! :)

It sounds like you have been putting lots of work into this; I'm looking forward to seeing it. :)

Thank you for all the advice guys, you've given me loads of ideas to be getting on with. Aliceblue, I agree with you that you need a while in some rooms for everything to load. I may have to make some of my tracks longer, to allow time for all these extra props that I'll be adding to load.

Which leads me nicely onto another question I thought of since I last posted: how much do you feel is 'too much'? I've been on some rides that, though interesting, have had so much furniture that there isn't time to take it all in (or sometimes even for it to load) before you leave again. Do people feel there is a 'limit' to what you should put in, or are you more of a 'fill all available space' person?

Well, I guess I best make some more credits to fund this ever-more elaborate ride!

The times I have felt "too much" wasnt the room, it was to much track. Sometimes I feel that people just try to put a piece of track everywhere they can and it sometimes it takes away from the experience.

Good point.

If you give your track layout a sense of purpose in the room, it will help to hold the rider's interest; for instance you can point to or outline main features with it. When in doubt, take the most direct route possible unless there's a good visual reason for a meandering path. If you need more time for everything to load, hide extra teleporters to slow the room entrance down.

1. Why do you care if they get off the ride? I love it when they get off my river and spend time in my room especially if I'm in the room. I always make a plan for them to get on and off someplace in my room.

2. I create the room design first then lay adjust it to lay the track.

3. Have you ever been on a ride and got kicked to the door in the middle of the ride and have no way back onto the ride. That is no fun at all. I don't even try to go back to the begining and get on again. What's the point?

4. A complete smooth ride with no tracks or rooms being stopped up. Easy of getting back on the ride if I get kicked off at the door to a new room.

5. If you are hoping for the public to ride it be sure all the rooms are set for "everyone".
Make the track long enough in every room so the room "loads" and the people have time to see it before exiting to next room. There is nothing more anoying the being "froozen" in a room while is loads, just be moved to new room and be "froozen" in it while never seeing the ride rooms.

If you plan to add it to the DIS River network, there are some rules about how to place your track so people can get back on the ride when they are kicked to the door suring the river.
