BTW, Elaine, I think the suggestions about PEI and Machinach island were excellent! I love the north shore of Superior i.e. Two Harbors etc. north of Duluth. There are some wonderful lodge style places up there. Even if it is a hot summer, the big lake cools things off. It can even get down right "chilly" there most evenings.

Elaine-Another nice vacation spot in Northern Michigan in Traverse City. The cherry festival is in July there too.

Elaine - One place I'd really like to go myself is extreme eastern Canada. Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. It seems to be an absolutely lovely area!

Elaine, how about Bar Harbor, Maine. There are some vey nice motels there, a lovely small town, and Acadia National Park. If you want info about the Outer Banks of North Carolina, we vacation there every summer.

Diane - Duffy is GORGEOUS (but I think you knew that already! )

Well... kind of hectic around here lately. I went to see my mom and dad a few weeks ago - stopped up after a business trip to Coeur D'Alene Idaho. Learned while there that my mom apparently had had a recent heart attack and got her scheduled as soon as possible for a battery of tests in Spokane to determine the extent of the damage and what the actual situation was. She had not said ANYTHING to any of the children. So this was a complete SUPRISE. Complicating matters, I found out my dad is having periods of disorientation followed by large scale panic attacks. He is fine on his home turf... but comes apart in foreign places or situations. Which is why I think my mom did not say anything... she is scared that their life is about to change if they can't manage stuff on their own. Long story short.... she has a definite blockage so she will be going in for surgery early next week. I will be dissapearing for a few days to be with them at the hospital and to take care of my father. He is not up to managing by himself while she is in surgery and recuperating. It's been a bit of a shocking couple of weeks. Would appreciate your good thoughts on their behalf.

Elaine, I highly recommend Canada's maritime provinces. They are absolutely gorgeous, and July is usually a great time to visit there. It's lobster season then! I don't know if you remember seeing Photobear Sam here on the boards, but she moved back to New Brunswick to help her parents with the cottages they rent out in Shediac, so that might be a possible place to go. Len's and my families are both from New Brunswick except my Dad was from PEI.

DblD, best wishes for your family as you work through these issues. It's not easy. I am glad my parents are moving closer to me...even though they are very young, it will give me a chance to "keep an eye" on them.
