Diane, it is from the surgery. My mom is not able to swallow anything, and the few times that they have tried with her, it backs up into her lungs. The feeding tube in the stomach is basically so she does not starve to death. The current one in the nose is just not providing enough nurishment right now. they are not sure why she can not swallow anymore, but hopefully they will get it working again. Everything else with the recovery is coming along nicely, and she may be moved to rehab by the end of June.

I know sometimes these types of things are caused from neurilogical damage during surgery, but the nerves can regenerate. My Dad had damage to the nerve on half of his tongue when he had by-pass surgery 20 years ago. It took years for him to get the use from that side of his tongue.

Speaking of common birthday's...I was born on one grandpa's birthday, and our DS was born on my other grandpa's birthday. Our DD missed her grandma's birthday by 56 minutes, and would have made it had we been living in MN instead of NY at the time!
