Rickshaw vs Boat???

Hi - This is probably a silly question but I noticed that folks mention taking boats and rickshaws as transportation options from the hotels. What is the difference? Do they take you different places? For example does a boat take you to city walk while a smaller rickshaw takes you to another hotel?
Thanks so much! 27 days until our first visit!

The boats are free and take you from the three hotels to Citywalk.
The rickshaw drivers work for tips. I would say the most common amount would be $5 - $10 based on how many people and how far. I know they take you from the RP to Citywalk/Margaritaville, From HR to US and I think from PB to US. They might also take you other places but I don't know. It is my families preferred way to get to and from the parks when we don't want to walk.

The rickshaws only take you to the end of the walking path where you encounter the bag search person---this is basically the entrances to Citywalk. The boats take you into Citywalk.

Boats are free---rickshaws run on tips.

Thank you!!

Follow up question - If we miss the boat when we are trying to get to WWHP for early entry - can we 'hail' a rickshaw? or do you need to wait for the next boat?

I did see the nice pics for the walking trail from PBH to City Walk through another section of the board - but just trying to preserve DH's knees for walking around the park!

The rickshaws are generally around where the boats dock or at the end of the paths near Citywalk. If you miss the boat, you'll just have to wait for a rickshaw if there isn't one already there.

That is great! We consistently miss the bus when we are at BC at WDW - we tend to be walking up just as it pulls away. I love how there is an option - even if we have to 'tip' for it - to not be too far behind on our plan!

:dance3:

There is also a shuttle bus. Not sure when it runs, but I'm sure you can ask for the schedule. Not many people seem to use that option. It has actually picked us up as we walked from PBH along the roadway.

Not sure which hotel you are staying at but if your are at HRH or RPR walking is also a quick way to get to the parks. We stay at HRH every stay and you can be at bag check in 5 min. and IOA only take a few more minutes from there. For us the boats are a much slower way to get there in the morning.

We walk from HRH. We took the boat once. To us it seems quicker than the boat (loading, docking, filing off the boat) but it could be that we just think it is because we areconstantly moving. We have been known to jump on a Rickshaw back to the hotel in the evening with tired feet....:rotfl:

We too think that walking from HRH is faster than the boat. The boat dock is on the other side of the waterway (Citywalk side) from the parks, so you have to walk around to the other side to the parks anyway. The walk from the boat docks and the walk from HRH seems about the same, so you save time by just walking from the hotel since you don't have to add in the boat ride time. Make sense? I might have just confused myself.... must have coffee....

Our original plan was for HRH but we switched to PBH because of the room size. There are 5 of us and since you can't book a Deluxe on CL at HRH we just decided to move to the resort with the bigger rooms. HRH would have been ideal for walking. @DAMO will ask when we check in about the shuttle bus schedule! thanks again!

For someone without knee/walking problems, the walk from PBH (even without doing the HRH parking lot shortcut) is lovely and not too long. I had to go back to the room for something and left hubby and son in line for the boat. The boat arrived before I'd even got into the building, and I decided to just walk once I'd retrieved whatever we'd forgotten.

It was SO pretty that I wished I could have done the walk on more days.

last fall, the shuttle bus ran in 30 minute intervals.

i used it at night once to see the other 2 hotels all lit up.

nice leisurely way to do something different.

You do learn something every day!!!

I never knew there was such a thing :confused3 Strangely though DH said he knew there was a shuttle bus?????? Where do you get it from the parks??

We always take the boat, though the walk is lovely. We did it once through choice and another time we had to as there was a huge thunderstorm and very heavy rain....we were soaked through!!!

Though there was some kind staff members waiting to give us warm towels to dry off when we got to the hotel. It was a very welcomed gesture :thumbsup2

when coming out of the studios, walk towards hrh.
do not turn right on the path to that hotel.

go straight to the circle section.

you will see the bus stop there.

While I don't where the shuttle picks up at PBH, it drops off not quite at the front, but a bit over from it. Where the towncars/limos have always seemed to hang out, when we've been there on two stays.

We discovered the shuttle during a huge downpour, after being kicked out from under the boat shelter twice ("kicked out" means they did it rudely, without any information being imparted to us until AFTER the second time) and finally being told there was a shuttle. Of course, the info is in the checkin material, but even I don't always go through that, being so excited to just get going with the FUN!

Thanks for that info :goodvibes

Will have to have at least one run in it. :thumbsup2

I don't mean to sound like a complete wimp, but is that the only bus stop for the parks, or is there one on the IOA side?

This is the only one. There isn't anywhere for buses to stop on the IOA side.
