Richmond, VA

We are taking a 2 1/2 week road trip down to Florida, spending 9-10 nights in WDW. One of our stops is Richmond, VA. We were going to tour the civil war museum and confederate white house. Has anyone ever done this? Is there enough in Richmond to spend 6 hours touring? We will have 2-13 year olds and a 7 year old. Recommended?

I grew up in Richmond and you could spend a whole vacation there. If you're into history, there's so much to see....Confederate White House, Civil War Museum, The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Valentine Museum. Richmond has an awesome Science museum, not to mention Monument Avenue and Hollywood Cemetery. Chimborazo park is a great place to start if you're into Civil war history. It was the site of a large hospital during the war, and is the starting point for a driving tour around Richmond that visits various battle sites. Maymont park is beautiful and is also a wonderful zoo. The James River is right there, and you can visit Belle Isle and Tredegar Iron Works. Bottom line, you might just get through the Civil War Museum and Confederate White House in 6 hours, but Richmond offers so much more. http://www.visitrichmondva.com/plan-your-trip/visitor-center/ will give you some idea of things you can do in Richmond.

More then enough for 6 hours. I live in the Richmond area.

Not sure what time of the year you will be here, but Maymont is beautiful (there are also many other gardens on the Richmond Garden Trail that may interest you), Cary Street, VA Museum of Fine Arts (has a good restaurant inside too, Amuse), Canal Walk, and if you like to eat Richmond is known for its good restaurants. Heritage, Edo Squid, Pasture, Julep's, Perly's, Mille's... I could go on and on..
