My DH and I are going to DW in October. We are staying at PO-FQ . WE cant wait! I was planning on surprising my husband with a drive at the Richard Petty Driving Experience. I have 2 questions. I have no idea where it is or how to get there from where we are. And is the Richard Petty worth it?
Thanks so much!::MinnieMo

I did the EXACT same thing for my husband four years ago.He LOVED it. To this day,he tells me it is the best thing I've ever done for him.

The racetrack is in the parking lot of the Magic Kingdom. Just follow the signs, real easy to get to!

Have fun, I'm sure he'll love it!:teeth:

alecam - which experience did you choose - there are several listed on the website

My DH was treated to this a couple of years ago by a friend. He did the ride along experience ( 6 laps?). He really did enjoy it. As far as transportation, I believe that they had to drive there themselves in a rental car. The track is just below the parking lot for the MK. Very easy to find. If you don't have a rental car, I'm sure that you can get a taxi there. Just check with your hotel.

I had to check the website,because I coudn't remember:teeth:
It was the Rookie experience. He took a class for an hour or two(not sure how long exactly) and then they went to the cars and each took turns for 8 laps around the track each (with a professional in the passenger seat, of course)!
I can't tell you how much he LOVED it!!

the rookie exp was my birthday present to DH last year ~ he LOVED it!! (so much so, that he was psyched when i suggested it as a bd present for my brother ~ with a few ppl chipping in, of course ;) )

tips:
~ take the early morning booking, & wear light-weight clothing (he'll need a "jumpsuit" & it can get hot)
~ we saw a "Richard Petty" van picking up/dropping off guests, so i assume they can provide trans (we had a rental minivan ~ the buses don't go to the track). ask them when you call as reservations are needed (& the "classes" do fill up!)
~ they offered a "second" experience directly after the 1st round of laps, for a deep discount (DH's biggest regret ~ he didn't bring a CC, & would have DEFINATELY driven again. he felt he was "just getting started").
~ get the photos!!

driving a racecar is many a BIG kid's dream ~ & IMHO, worth it (at least, once in a lifetime ;) )

thanks for the info. Sure my hubby would love it! Do you need to buy the jumpsuit or do they provide one over your clothes? Might be very hot in Aug.!

so glad you posted this! I am planning on pre-purchasing the rookie experience for my husband for a Christmas gift (we will be in Orlando in Feb '05)

So glad to hear that the receivers of this "gift" just loved it. My DH is a huge nascar fan and I don't think he would ever do this for himself so....

I just wish they'd have a coupon or discount offer - it is so expensive! More than we usually spend for gifts, plus after spending so much at Disney, I'll have to think about it. I know he'd love it, but it is hard to justify.

DdD and I gave DH the rookie experience for is 40th BD.
He did it in April (his BD was Dec 29).

He did the early session (I had prepurchased the experience).

The track is by the MK. The have a shuttle from the TTC near the kennel. HE took a cab from the WL in the morning (since it was early) and used Disney transport back to the hotel.

He had a blast (the picture plaque was about $70 and is a teriffic keepsake). He love the entire experience it was well worth the $$.
