Rice Krispie treat question about turning them pink

I remember reading somewhere you could turn Rice Krispie treats a different color, can't remember how. I actually think it was on this board but I can't find it now.

I'm using them as favors for a baby shower, going to put a stick in the bottom, stick a little candy duck (or something) on it, wrap it and tie it with a bow. (No, I didn't think of this myself). I was thinking of buying the pre-made ones. As I don't have a rectangle cookie cutter and I've NEVER made RKT before (I'm serious) and am concerned about the stickiness/uniformity factor.

Anyway---what can I do to dye them pink?? What can I do to stick the candy on it? Will the candy stick go in as easliy as I think it will? Does it sound like a crazy shower favor?

as always, thanks!!

Sure you should be able to add some(just a little) red dye to the melted marshmellows, before you add the rice krispies. That should make them look pink. As for rectangular cookie cutter.. no need just speard the treats in a large pan and cut them in rectangals your self. Seriously it will be easy...

You could use a little bit of melted white chocolate to stick the candy on -- use it like hot glue. Don't worry about size uniformity too much. Just cut the things with a plastic knife. ( I don't think rectangular cookie cutters exist) As for turning them pink, I'd think you'd add a few drops of red food color to your melted marshmallows to turn them pink. Here's a recipe for cherry rice krispie treats that are reddish:

I'd use less color to make them pink!

The above posters told you how to MAKE the Rice Krispies treats and turn them pink BUT I think you want to use the already made ones correct? In that case here's what to do. Buy a bag of the Wilton candy melts in pink, melt them, unwrap your Rice Krispie treat, stick in your stick and dip the treat into the melted melts you then lay on waxed paper or stick it into something to dry. after dry use a bit of the melted chocolate to stick on the duck. wrap in clear plastic and volaa! easy pink shower treats.

Sounds cute. The pink Wilton melts should be easy to find right now for Easter, Walmart probably even has them. They melt easy, smooth and dry very nice.

You should try to make some just to see how easy they are - and they taste better to my family.
I make pink ones for a school Valentine party. I just added red food coloring (you don't need much) to the melted marshmellows and butter. After I mixed in the rice krispies cereal they were a nice light pink. I melted white candy coating - which I found in the baking section of Kroger. I chopped the candy coating in to smaller pieces and melted it in the microwave in a heavy duty (freezer )zip lock 30 seconds at a time until it was smooth and melted. I then clipped a small hole in the corner and drizzled it over the cut heart shapes.

They are so easy to make, I hope you'll give it a try. A couple of suggestions if you do.

1.Melt butter and marshmallows ( I use the mini ones- they melt faster) in a large dutch oven type pan, for easier mixing in of the cereal.

2. Spray pan with pam and put a baggie over your hand and spray it too, and use that to press the mix into the pan. When cool, I pop them out of the pan and cut into squares on a cutting board, vs cutting in the pan. Much easier!

Ditto what PP said. I actually just finished making some and it took less than 10 min to melt everything and press it in the pan.

Homemade ones are really easy and taste 1000% better than the pre-made ones. There is some sort of chemical taste to the Kellogg's pre-made ones.

I'm making up some for my DD's class tomorrow for St. Patrick's day -- I'll be dying them green. And yes, if you are making them yourself you just add the color to the melted marshmallows before you add the crispies. I also add a bit more marshmallow and a bit less cereal than the recipe calls for -- that makes them extra gooey :)

I just saw you never made them before. They really are super easy -- the toughest thing is cleaning up. One tip -- spray your spoon with pam. I also use waxed paper (or saran wrap) to press them into the pan and I spray that too. All you do to make them is melt the butter, stir the marshmallows in until melted and then stir the cereal. After that you press it into a rectangle pan. Then cut them with a knife -- no need for a cookie cutter!

Here's the recipe: http://www.ricekrispies.com/Display.aspx?recipe_id=1605&kic=1 Adding just a little vanilla to the melted marshmallows also adds a little "something" to the recipe :)

I spotted some strawberry marshmallows last week in WalMart and bought them, DD wants to make some rice crispie bars with them, and they'll be pink!!

I think I'll try to make them, probably do a trial run next week.....my poor family has been deprived of real ones their whole lives!

And if my trail run doesn't go well, I'm doing this idea.

Let us know if you try this. It sounds like that would really work too!!

It's hard to explain how much better the homemade ones are. The premade ones are too sweet and just don't taste right.

This is absolutely one of the easiest things to make there is. A long, long time ago, the recipe used to say to wet your hand to press the mixture down in the pan. It doesn't say that any more, but I'll tell you I've not found a method that works better.

DD will not eat the store bought ones. Like the post above they are way too sweet and have an odd taste to them. My daughter's been making them since she was three (with my help). The pink marshmallows sound like a perfect solution.

We got munching on our pink marshmallows so I was planning on picking up another bag, I stopped at WalMart on my way home tonight and they're all gone!! I checked the grocery store and they didn't have any either, guess I should have stocked up on a few bags when I first saw them.:sad2:

You can Make the Rice Krispies treats in the Microwave it is just TOO easy!!

Kellogg's® Rice Krispies Treats® - Microwave Method

Put 10 oz. marshmallows, 3 Tbs. butter, into a large Microwave Safe bowl
microwave mixture on high 2 min., then stir with buttered spatula, microwave on high 1 min. stir until smooth, stir in 6 cups Kellogg's® Rice Krispies® cereal using a buttered spatula, until coated well.

press into 13x9-in. pan, using a buttered spatula or buttered wooden spoons

cool and then cut into squares, use a plastic knife or buttered pizza cutter.

It seems I've been making these a lot lately for school, after-school clubs etc. (DD10 is on a roll). I've found it super easy to put parchment paper in the bottom of the pan - no Pam or other buttering required. I leave a little parchment hanging off the sides and grip it and yank the whole lot of them right out of the pan. The parchment slips right off, then I cut them on a cutting board (much easier than trying to cut them in a pan). I agree, the homemade treats taste sooo much better than store bought. I haven't tried coloring them yet (colored marshmallows should work well), but I have made chocolate bottom treats that are yummy.

I color them by sprinkling into the mix whatever flavor jello you want: Ex: berry or cherry jell-o powder for pink.

It sounds like you got some great advice on making the rice crispie treats, but this had my LOL!

As I don't have a rectangle cookie cutter

:lmao: Its late and this struck me as way too funny. Just cut straight lines and there's your rectangle.

I'm not positive, but I'm guessing the store made ones don't use real butter, and probably hydrogenated oil, like the storemade Tollhouse chocolate chip cookies Homemade RC Treats are too easy.

I also like using parchment paper, another old fashioned but also effective method is waxed paper.

If you have a Michael's near you, they have the Wilton meltees and the lollypop sticks. They also have a whole section of stuff to make favors. thatt store is pure evil though. It's hard to walk out without spending $50, unless you're a guy ;)

Told you I couldn't cook!!! :rotfl:

You're right, I've gotten great advice. Can't wait to try them. Thanks everyone!!

Going to look for the pink marshmellows this weekend. Hopefully they'll have them.
