Rice in WDW

Hello all!
We're planning for a great vacation at WDW with our 4 yr old daughter next MAY 2003.
I need your help in locating restaurants in WDW which serves RICE. My daughter is a "rice eater". (We're asians and our staple food is really RICE ...LOL). My daughter is a very choosy eater , she doesn't like to eat hamburgers or pizzas, her favorite is chicken, vegetables or barbeque with RICE ...as long as RICE is present she's all set already.

Hi Patricia,
You can get rice at the Japan and China pavillions at Epcot -- both pavillions have a choice of restaurants. Also, they serve rice at the Polynesian resort both at the Kona Cafe (an upscale coffee shop) and at the all you can eat dinner at Ohana's (fried rice). I don't recall seeing rice on the menu anywhere else. Check the WDW menus on the wdwig website.

Hello Patricia,
At the Swan hotel, there is an asian resturant called Kimonos serves Japanese.
The Pepper Market at the Coronado Springs Resort is a nice food court type resturat have an asian kitchen as they call it with a good selection of asian food including rice, cooked the slow rice cooker way.
Most resturants are happy to serve you plain boiled rice if you ask for it, but if your daughter is used to the asian rice and the way you cook it then she might not like it.
If you are staying in a suite type hotel you can buy a small rice cooker and cook some for her each day

Well, you can ALWAYS find rice at any of the Japanese or Chinese restaurants at Epcot. Other than those, I haven't seen it featured on many other menus.

Boiled rice is ok. Do you think they'll allow rice cooker inside ALL-STAR MOVIES?

People bring crock pots, toasters, and coffee makers so you should be fine.

I got the Beef Terryaki which comes with "Sticky Rice" at the Kona Cafe. My DS who doesnt eat anything(even all the regular stuff kids love), was actually asking me for more and more of the rice. It was so good I didnt want to share.

Ohana has rice but it isn't plain white rice. My son (a die-hard rice eater) had 4 bowls of it.

ABC Commissary at MGM has two entrees that come with rice, and it's also available as a side.

Here is our rice experience. Rice is a staple of our Asian diet and after a few days, we start to go crazy without just a bite. We didn't want to haul an electric rice cooker to WDW while we were at the All Stars, so I actually froze cooked rice in baggies and hauled those down with me. We had rented a frig and I would microwave them in the food court. Now that we are DVC members and can cook in our room, I bring down my little plastic microwave rice cooker. I have been unable to find short grain rice at the local grocery stores, Goodings and Winn Dixie so I buy it at the store at Japan. They do have rice at the restaurants in Japan and China and the counter service restaurants there might be a cheaper alternative. I actually found real rice at the Character Breakfast at the Beach Club the time I ate there.

DVC is Disney Vacation Club, the Disney timeshare. All of the rooms in the DVC hotels have microwaves or full kitchens depending on the type of room.

Some of the meals at Tusker House in AK feature rice as a side dish. I think the peanut crusted chicken and the salmon both have rice on the side. I'm sure if you asked nicely, they would provide it as a side with any entree.

ABC commissary at MGM has a rice and chicken dish which is very good, they also have a brazilian dish with rice and black beans.

We eat rice a lot also(we're Cajun from South Louisiana)...I'll be on the lookout for rice when I go next month,and let you know.

I believe it's on the menu at the Port Orleans Riverside food court as an alternative to french fries.
