I am looking at getting a commercial grade vacuum (dog hair keeps ruining them). Anyone ever have a Riccar? The good? The bad? Any other recommendations for powerful machines? I had two top-of-the-line Hoover Wind Tunnels and neither lasted for a year. At more than $300 each, I'd like to invest in a great vacuum that will last AND get the dog hair up!

We have a Riccar. It is the top of the line model and works really well. They are well made and I haven't had any trouble with mine. It is about 18 months old. I need to take it in for a cleaning and general service inspection.

I had Oreck for several years prior to that. I like the Oreck vacuums. The problem I had with Oreck wasn't with their vacuum as much as it was with their parts department. We had their canister, loved it, but somehow the cord got chewed up or cut. We took it in and they spliced a new cord on top of the old one. I'd expected them to replace the whole retractable cord unit in it's original white, instead, it looked like a kid from 9th grade shop class had done it. Later, some plastic part of the hose or head cracked and even though the unit ran well and was only 8 years old, they said they didn't make parts for it anymore.

What's the use of having a long-lasting vacuum if you don't keep parts for it?

I own a small janitorial company and have tried several different brands of commercial vacuums and Riccar is the best hands down. I just bought a Riccar upright with on board tools and it's the best vacuum I've ever owned. The thing kicks some serious butt and the suction on it is very impressive. A lot of the vacumm makers are taking their manufacturing to China and the quality shows. I used to use commercial grade Sharp vacuums but they went overseas and the're garbage now. Same with a lot of the Hoovers. Riccar is still made in the USA and the parts are easy to get, not that they break down and my two have been flawless. Riccar makes some damn good regular grade vacuums as well for normal household use. Can't go wrong with a Riccar, except for the price, it's expensive, no doubt about it. I tried them all including Dyson and if it's quality you're looking for, then go with the Riccar. You won't find Riccars at a store like Target or anything but only places/businesses that just sell vacuums only. Look around in your area and I provided a link below for you.

Thanks! I found out about Riccar when I took my Hoover in for repair today. I was pretty impressed with it but needed some other opinions. :thumbsup2
