Having an issue. My grill is not working. Of course I found this out AFTER I bought 3 racks of really nice looking babyback ribs for tomorrow.

Anyway, can I do them in my roaster oven? any tricks for getting them crispy and smoky. DH thought maybe some liquid smoke in the roaster might help.

TIA:)

I routinely make ribs in the oven vs. the grill. I just like them better. I usually roast them, covered with either a rub and wrapped in foil. I do on med. temp (300ish) for about 1.5 hours. We like them more tender than just grilling allows but not quite fall off the bone.

Then I lay them on a sheet pan lined with foil, brush with bbq and broil to get crispy. You can add a little liquid smoke to the bbq sauce to get more of flavor. I also wonder if you could put a drop or two into the foil packets when you braise them.

Even with the grill we prefer them this way.

I just made ribs myself. I did it about how DMickey did hers, except I roasted on 250 for 3 hrs and then removed the foil, put on the BBQ sauce and crisped them up om the grill however you could just do it in the oven.

I did cut them in half first.

I might do something like this. I can put them in my roaster, and then just stick them in the oven for the broiling part.

I was hoping to be able to do them in the roaster, since I'll have a lot going on in the oven. I don't think they will get crispy in the roaster though.

I do our ribs in the regular oven with a rub @ 200 for 6 to 7 hours. Then wipe them down with BBQ sauce and broil them till the BBQ is bubbling.

Just made a bunch yesterday. We rubbed them with a rub mix, put in a pan with 1 dark beer, covered with foil, and cooked at 350 for 1 1/2 hours. Then, coated with bbq sauce, and grilled for a few minutes (but could've skipped this step). With ribs, you want to cook them long on lower heat - I've cooked them at even lower heat for several hours.

I use my roaster for ribs often. I do it basically like I would in the oven...cooking low for about 3 hours and then remove most of the liquid add bbq sauce and cook until crispy.

I understand that they can be broiled. I have cooked before. My question was about doing them in a roaster since I will have other things going in the oven.

Can they? I can see finishing them off in the broiler, but ribs call for slow cooking.

Only in the broiler for the last little bit, to crisp them up. Cooked long and slow prior to that. At least that is the way I've done it.
