My scrapspace is the end of my kitchen, and I have storage tucked everywhere on the first floor, but it's limited and stuffed. Right now, most of my ribbon is not on rolls, in round jars in a bin. But I could really use the bin for stamp storage. Been reading the 'get organized' thread - but the beautiful storage shown is for rolls and requires space I don't have.

Then I'm thinking - how often do I really use ribbon/ fibers? And the answer is - not much. Maybe I should just chuck it?

Do you use your ribbon for scrapping? How or For what?

I use ribbon all the time as a buffer between 2 different papers. to me it kind of softens the line where they meet when I put some ribbon on it. I have also used it on cards just as an embelli and on my photo mats. Thats just what I like to do with it. If you dont use it and could use the space for something else then either shrink down what you have or purge it completely. In small spaces you shouldn't keep what you don't use.

I use ribbon a lot on photo mats, on cards, and as borders on my pages. But as the PP said if it not something you go to when you are scrapping then it may be time to get rid of it.

I too use it a lot...one of my favorite embellies. I use it as borders, on tags, I like to cut strips and staple or tie them to mats or the side or top of a page, sometimes just ramdomly placed down or across a page instead of using patterened paper...

Linda I wouldn't chuck all of it at once but I would purge it. Go through and see what you would use, pitch colors and patterns you don't like. Start there then see what you have left.

I have my ribbon wound on wooden spools and those are divided by color in a plastic bin from Ikea.
I can bring one with me to the Cape if you want to see it.

I also like ribbon as a buffer between two different papers.

Another option is to do little knots of ribbon to decorate page - tie a knot, leave about 1/4 - 1/2 inch, and put two or three in a row as decoration.

A third option is to do some tags on your page, and use ribbon or fibers to "hang" the tag on the page - it can either be a photo, journeling, or tag with some stamped image.

I use a fair bit of ribbon, but I think it's a fun element.

Maureen - I think you've nailed the answer to my storage problem! Thank you! I'm going to cut up a piece of plastic and try it Right NOW!

Thanks gang, for reminding me - yes, I do use it for tags, and on ring bound books. But clearly there are more uses I've been missing -

Buffy, I will purge - and bring my castoffs to the cape in case anybody wants them ;)

It looks like you made a decision. I am a ribbon hoarder! I love ribbon! I use it everywhere. We have a deal in my house now. I am not allowed to buy anymore ribbon until I use up some of my stash. In order to do that I have agreed to put ribbon on every layout somewhere : ) You may seen some of these layouts, but I am a visual person so I thought I would show you some ways I use ribbon.

Not that I am a master scrapper at all. That is just my goal this year to use my ribbon so I thought I would show you some examples! Good luck!!

I love ribbon for cards and tags. I first started with wrapping ribbon around 4 x 4 chip board and storing that in a long bread basket. Now I have a ribbon spool caddy.

I love the ideas for more ways to use my ribbon :) I have mine in a drawer, I use it a lot on photo mats and journal boxes.

My adaptation of Maureen's "ribbon ring". It took about 2 hours, cost nothing because I used scrap plastic packaging and rings I already had. Best of all, it fits perfectly in the end of my closet and frees up a whole bin. (Buffy, I will bring my gallon ziplock of "purgings" to the Cape for all y'all to peruse.)

Punched ovals. Punched hole in top for hanging, and then holes for the holder part connected by scissors. for 1/8 inch, I just left holes without cutting between.

Thanks for the great idea!

That's great. I never considered making my own :confused3 but now I may actually try. I do have the rings, just need to find some plastic!

Looks good!!
I might bring some of mine to add to the pile.
I should bring a bunch of stuff I don't use.

What's left to go to Logan&Tylersmom, or a Girl scout troop or something.

I have tons of cool ribbon that I just started using since I learned that you can keep it from fraying by putting clear nail polish on the ends. I store my ribbon by wrapping it around a toilet paper roll and seal it down with scotch tape.

I use ribbon a lot.

I have used it on cards, to run a buffer between 2 colors or pattern papers, used it to highlight a photo in a layout, used on tags, file folders, photo mats, etc..
Sometimes a page just needs a little "pop" but you don't want to cut up a whole pattern paper. So instead of cutting strips off a couple different larger papers I just used ribbon - mix and match solid color ribbons and pattern ribbons look pretty nice :)

I've got 2 young cats. They would have a field day with that. :rotfl:

mm. Maybe you should go with the TP roll idea :confused3

Like that idea! I just saw a birthday card with scraps of paper for candles - but I'll bet your ribbon idea would work for that too!
