I love the Magic Bands and I think FP+ is the best thing since sliced bread but I swear these RFID chipped mugs are the devil's spawn! They need an override when your chosen drink is spewing out syrup or water only. And the staff (at the WL certainly, and yes, Mr Roaring Fork's manager I'm looking at you  ) need to listen to the customer and not assume that we don't know how to use the machines, instead grabbing our mug from us, sticking it down and announcing that the problem is that we have just had a drink and need to wait. You shouldn't then take it to the other machine which also isn't working and then lock me out again. You then shouldn't take me back to the original insisting that it is fixed and yes, lock me out yet again.

It shouldn't take me 15 minutes to get a drink of ANY sort. And this certainly shouldn't happen 2 days running.

That is all.

. . . I swear these RFID chipped mugs are the devil's spawn! . . .

1) Isn't greed wonderful?
2) In this case, "Greed is not good."
3) WDW sure is trying to pinch every penny from their guests.
4) Which is strange, since they get ALL of the fountain syrup FOR FREE.
5) They pinch the vendors, now they pinch the guests.

I also had a TERRIBLE experience with them at both ASMovies and Music in August. So bad that I will bring drinks from now own.

I am a pretty upbeat, go-with-the-flow person, but I honestly think what Disney is doing with the mugs is almost an insult. Seriously, even if there ARE those who will share mugs/cheat the system, it is not even pennies a glass we are talking about. I wouldn't think it would be enough of a loss to cause such aggravation to the OP and, I'm sure, countless others who pay top dollar for a Disney vacation. I hope they rethink that one. :rolleyes2

Sorry, this is the first I have heard of the RFID mugs. So you can only get a drink every 15 minutes or something? How does it work?

Apparently it was significant enough of a loss that Disney felt that they needed to make a change.

I disagree, I think it is very uncreative beancounters who, due to lack of imagination, need to nickle and dime guests rather than provide something that they would like to purchase...the mugs--change them every 6 months or yearly, the new 24 hour advance cancellation policy for ADR's--sometimes things happen that are beyond someone's control. These all are simply money grabs for the sake of it not for any significant reason and will not enhance the guest experience in any way.

I just used mine the last 5 days and had 0 problems with the system. In fact, filling my cup up all the way did NOT use an entire refill so I could take a big sip then fill it up more. If I waited more than about 30 sec to a min it wouldn't let me fill. I can understand about the soda spewing mishap but that is not super common, but I had no problems with it at all

I'm sorry you had trouble but thank-you for the laugh! Devil's spawn! That's awesome.

We stayed at saratoga springs and for some reason tea doesnt have RFID chips heh...

We didnt have any issues with ours, but i do understand the complaint. Sorry you had a bad experience

I think it is the greed of some guests that caused all of this. So many were incapable of following the rules, that Disney got tired of it, and this is the result.

I don't think it matters one whit how much Disney pays for the syrup. They are a business and can charge what they like. We don't have to pay for it if we don't chose to.

I had the same experience. No problems at all. In fact, my daughter tried the hot chocolate, didn't care for it, poured it out, rinsed her mug, then refilled it with soda. No issues.

For what the mugs cost the guest, I REALLY wish I knew exactly how many times one of those mugs would have to be filled up for Disney to lose money on the soda. I'm guessing hundreds. Even if someone used the same mug for the whole family of 5, THEN brought it back for the next trip I imagine Disney would still make money on that individual mug. Balance that with the people like me who play by the rules and buy each of us one on every trip and they are coming out ahead, guaranteed. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE spending every possible discretionary dollar I can at Disney, but I still say this particular plan is bad customer service.

I am with Disney on both of these changes. I can't tell you how many times I have seen people filling up with ancient mugs or just using their own personal drink containers (CMs are either too busy or too polite to stop them). IMHO, offering new mugs every year is not enough to get the cheaters to stop cheating.

As for ADRs, we all complain how difficult it is to get them sometimes so anything that forces people to cancel them when they don't plan to attend is a good thing IMHO.

Same here. The only issue I had was not adding ice to my first fill and the soda was warm, not cold like when it usually comes out. Other than that, I have had NO problems.

We used them for 8 days with no issues. The wait time between refills was only 2-3 minutes. The first day I was so hot/thirsty that I filled mine with water the same time my ds12 filled his with Coke. By the time I finished the water and was ready for Coke, he was refilling his. The exp dates were inconsistent - 3 of us at the same day, which was well after our trip ended and my dd29's said Nov 3, which means she could still be filling that mug up.

I did see one person trying to fill up one of the mugs purchased at the park. I believe she probably grabbed the wrong mug by accident because after trying to get it to fill 3-4 times, she looked at it, rolled her eyes and walked away.

I, too, am sorry you had such a bad experience, but I got a chuckle out of your post (at your expense) :lmao: I am glad we have never gotten the refillable cups. I think now we never will-we don't care for soda.

I agree on both points.
