Reviews of F&W festival items

I'm pregnant AND vegetarian so my options were pretty limited. But here are some pictures of the things my husband and I tried at the festival this week.

The rice pudding from Scandinavia was so-so. Not very flavorful.

The bunny chow from South Africa was really good. I would have liked the "bread loaf" better with a dessert, though.

Neither of us were crazy about the cheese fondue.

I think my husband liked the California sushi roll from Japan.

The pastel de nata from Portugal was okay. I had no idea what it was when I ordered it, so I didn't know what to expect.

My husband enjoyed the creme brulee from France again this year. I tried it last year but I'm just not into it.

From Ireland. The cheese selection tasted okay, but I really prefer to eat cheese on crackers or bread. I couldn't WAIT to have the lava cake again this year because it was by far my favorite from last year's festival, but it was disappointingly only okay. I don't know if my pregnancy taste buds are different, but it wasn't as delicious as I remembered. The portion also seemed smaller, but I don't know if it actually was.

Husband took one bite of the Canadian cheddar cheese soup, said it tasted exactly like vomit, and then pitched it into that trash can.

I think he liked the pork slider and mai tai from Hawaii much better.

Thanks for those pictures and the reviews. Helps me know what I DON'T want. :thumbsup2

What you said about the chocolate lava cake was interesting. I felt the same way, and I'm definitely not pregnant. I thought it tasted a little more alcoholic and a little less chocolatey. But once I discovered the pumpkin mousse, my craving for a good dessert was satisfied!

Cmon folks, looking for more reviews. We plan on trying quite a bit of items so really need to know what to get and what not to get!

Just got back and almost everything we tried was a winner! Some of my faves:

Pork slider and mai tai from Hawaii
Lamb chop and lamington from Australia
Lamb slider from New Zealand
Fondue from the cheese booth
Filet from South Africa (awesome)
Shrimp cake from Singapore
Beef with chimichurri sauce from Argentina
Swedish meatballs from Scandanavia
Griddled cheese from Greece (sooo good)

A couple things I wasn't crazy about - dragonberry colada (not as good as the flamed cherry last year), the rice pudding from Scandanavia and the linguica from Portugal (I am part Portuguese and it didn't taste like what I've had before - not as smoked paprika-y).

Oh one more thing, I was really looking forward to the Linda Bean lobster cuddler. It was okay, but literally just a lobster claw in the shell on a plate with a side of butter. I don't know what I was expecting (I think a couple of claws out of the shell in butter or something). It was just kinda boring and basic. The lobster roll looked good but I didn't bother since I can get those readily at home.

Just returned from the F&W and we tried almost everything, but here is what we liked the best:

Grilled Lamb Chop from Australia, Coq au Vin from France (got it twice!), Sparkling Pomegranate from France, Kalua Pork Slider from Hawaii, Nuernberger Sausage in a Pretzel Roll from Germany and the Maple and Moosehead Salmon from Canada. We sampled a lot more but these are the items that we think were the best.

Just returned from the F&W festival today! Some of my favorites were:

Griddled Greek Cheese with Pistachios and Honey- however, I had it when the cart first opened and the cheese was straight off of the grill and still melty. This was my absolute favorite thing that we had :lovestruc.. However, I went back and got it again the second day (because it was just that good) and I guess they had some already made and just sitting out and it was not nearly as good as the day before so I would suggest going when they first open if you want to give this a try!

The Kalua Pork Slider with sweet and sour dole pineapple chutney and spicy mayonnaise from Hawaii was amazing! We also had the tuna poke with seaweed salad and lotus root chips and I thought the tuna was really good but wasn't a fan of the seaweed salad.

Me and DBF agreed that the beef empanada from Argentina was amazing.
Also the Grilled Lamb chop with potato-goat cheese salad and shiraz reduction from Australia was good (although it was a pretty small portion and we were splitting everything so I guess it would have been better if there was a bigger piece of lamb)

Dbf also loved the Beef Rendang from singapore, which I didn't like because it was sooooo spicy. My mouth was still on fire 15 minutes later

The Lobster and Scallop Fisherman's Pie from Ireland was really good as well, and they gave a pretty good portion

I also loved the Calamari salad with Fennel, smoked paprika, and olive oil from Portugal (the calamari is grilled, NOT fried so I wouldn't suggest this if you don't know that you like grilled calamari)

Things we didn't like:
The pumpkin mousse from America... we didn't see what all the hype was about and thought that the tres leches from the Desserts and Champagne stand was much much better

The Bunny chow from South Africa... neither of us liked this, at all

The Golabki form Poland was pretty greasy, did not look appealing, and tasted gross

All and all everything was pretty delicious, and we spent two days snacking and drinking around the world. I can't wait to go back next year!! Saturday it rained, actually it poured, ALL day long (did not stop for even 5 minutes) and we still had an amazing time... Yesterday the rain wasn't as bad and it was definitely better to be able to walk around and not run for cover with your food.
