Reviews for Teppanyaki

DH wants to eat at the Japan resturant that cooks the food in front of you. I am assuming that is Teppanyaki. I've looked up the menus but can anyone tell me what is good here? And also is the sushi good?

From what my guidebooks are saying is that Tempura is actually the better place to eat - can I get reviews on that as well? Thanks!

Never been to Tempura but have been to Teppanyaki twice. Loved it both times. They start by offering a hot moist towel for hands and face. Then drinks can be ordered. The waitress will return with the drinks and the meal is ordered. The sushi is good. They have appetizers of shrimp, scallops, squid etc. The menu for entres have chicken, shrimp, scallops, steak, lobster and combo meals of the same items. We had the shrimp and scallops for appetizers and the shrimp and steak for our meal. The kids had chicken. All the items are grilled in front of you on a surface grill. They are served with white rice, fresh zuchini, and bean sprouts. These are all grilled. There are two sauces served with the meats. Everything is very fresh. The chef entertans as he cooks. Kids get a dessert included. You are seated around the grill in groups of eight. we love this place and have not been disappointed in our visits in the least. I highly recommend trying it out.

My family ate at Teppanyaki in Feb. for dinner. It was a "very" rainy night and we actually had a PS for lunch the next day but rain disrupted all our PS's. I called around 2pm and got a PS for dinner at 6:30. We were seated immediately even though the waiting area was packed (I assume those folks had no PS).

We were seated with another family who was very friendly and we enjoyed their company. Our chef was awesome. He had very good skills and incredibly cheesy jokes that my DS age 8 died laughing at! Our food was great. This was our most expensive meal of the trip. DH and I had an alcoholic beverage and the kids had fruit specialty drinks. DD age 11 was starving and ordered an adult entre' (chix and steak combo). I had the lobster and steak combo.

We felt very positive about our experience there. It really "saved" the night for us as it was pouring rain and we could have been miserable. The kids visited the gift shop after and bought Japanese trading cards and cookies. We watched Illuminations from the raised (and covered!) deck outside the restaurant.

I have read where some people had chefs in training... I wonder if that happens more at lunch than dinner as all the chefs around us seemed good.

I really like Teppanyaki a lot. I can't say that the food it is much better than the local japanese steak house places around here, but I like the atmosphere a lot, and I really like going there.

The sushi is good. If you want mostly Sushi, then just go to matsu-noma lounge - go to Teppanyaki if you want the whole big steak meal and hoopla. Or go in to tempurakiku if you don't want the big steak meal.

Also, the sushi is as good or better at Kimono's in the Swan which is nearby. Also good at Ca. Grill.

We've eaten at Teppanyaki twice. Both times for lunch. Last year it was great. Our best meal for the entire trip. Had the shrimp, scallop and lobster combo and everything was perfect. DW had the steak and lobster, awesome as well. The chef was very entertaining.

However, last month we did get a chef in training and it made a HUGE difference. She didn't slice the meat as thin as the regular chef and it made the steak tough and the lobster rubbery. Big disappointment. The veggies were great both time, so I guess there's no way to mess those up. The edamame is particularly good.

I wonder if you can request an experienced chef, or if you're just stuck with whomever is available.

The Tempura room and the Teppanyaki room are both delicious and fun, so it's just a matter of which you're in the mood for. Obviously, the Tempura place has tempura, and also sushi, which you can watch them make. The Teppanyaki room is only the stir fry, although last time we were there they did let someone at our table order some sushi from the other room. Both serve the exact same rice, soup and salad so it really depends on what you feel like eating for your main course. I don't think you can go wrong with either one!

As of last month, sushi was actually on the menu at Teppanyaki, although none of us had it.

I like both the Teppanaki and the Tempura places. We have a tendancy to eat the Tempura place since it is first come/first served (although they did have a period where you could do PS) and I can do Teppanaki where I live.

Many times my wife will order some Tempura and I will order sushi for my meal. I think the Tempura is very good, but the sushi is passable.

Alternatively, if we are passing by in the late afternoon (around 3ish), we will stop in the lounge to unwind/cool off and order sushi, endamame and a few other things.

The sushi is very good. We often go to the lounge and have a drink and sushi there. The teppanyaki restaurant is always good though.

I hate to ask this but do they have the basic kids menu stuff here? You know, chicken fingers and peanut butter sandwiches and stuff? My husband and I really want to eat here, just afraid the kids won't like it !

We eat at Teppanyaki every trip and love it. DH also gets the sushi and says it's good.

Sorry Tinkerbell27, no regular kids menu items here - just chicken or meat served teppanyaki style...might be a good night to try Disney's child care! (we do that with our two when we want to have a quiet meal at Kona Cafe..)

My DS (8) is fairly picky and he did fine there. He had a fruit drink which helped fill him up and even though he isn't fond of white rice he did like the fried Udon (?) noodles and he had a grilled chix kid's meal. I shared my steak so it was a real protien feast for him! I did bring my own ketchup for his meat (pilfered from lunch at Plaza Rest. in MK) and the Chef made quite a few comments about how that ketchup got into his restaurant!

We always take our kids to the WS restaurants, sometimes we feed them a yogurt before we go or we have taken in a fruit cup. At Teppanyaki we saw a boy at another table with a slice of pizza he brought in! I wouldn't go that far, we always order a kids entre' even if we bring in a fruit cup or something. But it is Disney and they are used to dealing with kids!
