Big fan of AKL, love Boma, this year trying Jiko first time. Reviews????? :bitelip:

Positively stellar!

The wine list is phenomenal. Our servers have always been really good about talking to us about our preferences with wines and suggesting wonderful pairings when we tell them what we'd like to try for our meal. Our last meal there, our server let us keep the wine list to bring back home and highlighted several wines that she thought we'd enjoy based on our choices. Jiko also helped us get in touch with their distributor so that we could find good African wines here at home, which we have. African wines have now become a staple in our house now thanks to Jiko :)

We've been twice. This is now a must-do for us!

The first time, DH & I ordered one of their flatbreads, the one with kalamata olives, goat cheese and microgreens. The microgreen was radish. Evidently, they change out the microgreens. It was delicious. Our main course was the filet over mac & cheese with a wine reduction sauce. Our wine pairing was a South African blend, SMV.

We were so impressed with our first meal there, as soon as I got back to my timeshare that night, I cancelled our ressie at Le Cellier later that week and changed it to Jiko. That filet over mac left quite an impression, and both DH and I needed another "fix" before vacation ended.

The second go-around, we tried a different appetizer. It was a combination platter with several different things. All were lovely, but that flatbread had stolen my heart. We return in about a month, and we're both already talking about getting the flatbread again.

We didn't order a dessert, nor tea. We're big tea drinkers, and we actually bring several rooibos teas on our trips and make them daily iced at our timeshare, so buying it out didn't make a whole lot of sense for us.

Thanks a lot! Too bad the flatbread isn't an appetizer included on the DDP, guess we'll have to splurge a little $$$. We tried the flatbread (( and LOVED it)) when we took a tour there and learned a little about the African architecture in the building. Such awesome flavors!!! :)

Another vote for the filet with mac and cheese! AMAZING!! :cloud9:

Jiko is my favorite restaurant at WDW. The food is all quite good, the wine list (all South African wines) offers opportunities to try wines that are not available anywhere else in the US and the service has always been great. You will definitely enjoy yourself there.

We went July 2005 as a parents only dinner while Teen daughter stayed in the room and munched on pizza.

It was a really great meal in many ways. We came away feeling as though it was our favorite meal of the trip because is was a quiet enjoyable time for us, the adults, and also because our server was wonderful!!!

We had an appetizer sampler platter. I fell in LOVE with the duck firecracker, it was to die for!!!! I then had the cucumber, tomato and Red Onion salad. I loved it so much that I make it at home and everyone loves it!

For my Entree, I had Wood-Grilled Pork Tenderloin with sweet potato dumplings. The tenderloin was fork tender, tasted fabulous. However, I didn't care for the dumplings. They weren't bad by any means, just not something that I enjoyed the flavor of. For dessert, I had the Flourless mocha cake. It was so good!!! I loved it!!

We are planning on going back again this winter when we go back to wdw!

I was pretty disappointed with Jiko.

The duck and pork firecracker was really, really good, as was the coconut melktart.

I had the fish entree (menu said monkfish but the disboards said it was halibut) and he had the lamb shank entree, and both were literally swimming on the plate in sauce. The overabundant and not all that good sauces ruined what probably would have been pretty decent food. When I looked at pictures here it looked like all the meals came this way. It's gross.

Lots of stuff on the menu looked good, but I can't get past the sauce thing. I would only eat there again if I was sure I could get a dry plate.

A vote for the chermoula chicken with kalamata olives. absolutely to die for! Last two trips we've cancelled other ADR's to go back to Jiko. We asked for, and waited for, a table by the window; I don't like to be out in the middle of the room.

GoodFairies, i am sorry you had a disappointing meal. we have never had a disappointing experience. here is another vote for the filet and mac/cheese. the BBQ keyan coffee chicken flatbread is wonderful. this is a must do for us.

Absolutely amazing. Last month on our visit my wife had the tenderloin and I had the halibut (which might be the best fish dish I've ever had). The wine list is stellar (it actually overwhelms me so I go by the suggestion of the server). My favorite dessert last month was the pistachio creme brulee with the chocolate bottom - should be illegal it was so decadent.

I am your opposite! I love sauces. Must be the French in me. The fish dish you had (pan roasted monkfish--later switched to halibut) with vegetables of the moment and lemon beurre blanc is one of my all time favorite dishes anywhere in Disney.

Jiko's not the only place that adds a lot of sauce to their dishes. If you go back to Disney, I bet they'd be happy to serve the sauce on the side. The restaurants are very accommodating.

Other yummy things we've enjoyed at Jiko: the short ribs, the kalamata flatbread, the charmoula chicken, the filet with mac and cheese, and the "taste of Africa" appetizer.

Mine had a tomato butter sauce. It was oily and overpowering. The sauce on the lamb was overpowering also. They were all you could taste and ruined the food. Sauce in moderation is fine. Sauce in those quantities block out everything else. California Grill does a halibut right.

Jiko and Flying Fish are our food favorites (other than V&A's, of course). You can't beat Jiko's wine list for value (in Disney terms of course). We've had most of the menu items and have never been disappointed (especially like the lamb shank, filet and the bbq kenyan coffee flatbread).

I loved my halibut at Jiko last week (not nearly as much as FF though) and disliked my most recent halibut at CG... :confused3

I didn't realize that there are foods that are "off limits" on the Dining Plan. Are there other meals/dishes that aren't on the menu for the 2TS credits???

Hi there, can you explain the flatbread not being an appetizer included in the DDP? I didn't realize that certain things on the menu we are not allowed to order if we have the dining plan. We are purchasing the premium dining plan and the agent told us we could order anything we wanted.....just getting a little concerned that that may not be true....as I am ready to chow down once we get there :)

Thanks!

We just changed our ADR for Cape May to Jiko, because we cannot go to WDW again without eating here.
We stayed at AKL last December and took the culinary tour. They seated us at the little bar near the stoves and a chef gave us an overview of the restaurant and we tried some flatbreads.
We would like to request to sit at this area again. Can I have this request added to my ADR and if so, what should I specifically ask for.
