Reviews for April 30th to May 4th
This was a bonus trip for us as DH had a convention to attend at the CR. DD8 and I traveled with him. DS20 decided that Disney was not worth missing school or work. (I now wonder if he was switched at birth).
We love character breakfasts and find that they fill us up until time for an early dinner so we planned several.
(5/1) CRT- We have done this several times now and it was as wonderful as ever. We were seated right away and we received great service. The fruit was delicious. Nothing matches the magic for us like eating inside the castle with the Princesses. We saw Cindy, Aurora, Snow White, Mary Poppins, and Belle. The Fairy Godmother was in the lobby. Our only complaint was that a couple of the Princesses didnt quite look right. They just did not look anything like the Princess they were portraying- only the dress made them identifiable. Despite this, we will be back. According to DD8 they looked too old. We had the best timing of any of our previous trips. We were seated at exactly 8:15 and walked out into Fantasyland at 9:00. We were the first to ride Small World.
(5/3) Ohana- This was our first time here and we loved the character interaction and the food. Our waitress was wonderful and we enjoyed the food. DD even paraded around the restaurant. There was a fun, party atmosphere. We will stay at CR or Poly next trip so we will be back.
(5/4) Chef Mickeys- We do this every trip and love it. We dont enjoy the buffet as much as full service but we always return because we are a sentimental family and we celebrated DDs 5th Birthday with breakfast here. The buffet was fresh and nothing seemed to be sitting for too long. A tip is to go around to the backside of the buffet. The selections are the same and there is no line as everyone congregates on the other side.
Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip, and Dale were at both Chef Mickeys and Ohana.
Due to airline problems we had to cancel Crystal Palace and due to DDs need to sleep in a bit one morning we canceled Kona Café. Tonga Toast and Pooh will have to wait for our next trip.
We only ate lunch the two days that we skipped breakfast. On the breakfast days, we were too full and just snacked before an early dinner.
Sci Fi Dine In- We love this place. The cool, dim atmosphere is a welcome break from the sun. The service was a little slow. DD and I both had delicious chocolate shakes and then we shared the spinach dip and she had mac and cheese off the kids menu. This was plenty of food for the two of us. The dip was really good. We had a noon PS but were seated just after we checked in at 11:45.
Rain Forest Café @ AK- I solemnly swear that I will NEVER go back. We have been to this chain many times in many cities because our kids have always wanted to. It has never failed to disappoint DH and me. This was our third visit to this location and nothing had changed. The service is slow, the atmosphere is noisy and chaotic, and the food is just OK. I think at 8, DD has now experienced it enough times that I wont be a mean mom to try something else next time. I had the Chimi Cha Cha off of the appetizer menu and DD had chicken strips.
If anyone is still reading, on to the dinners.
4/30- Patisserie in France- We had a picnic and shared a cheese plate, a baguette, a turkey cheese sandwich, crème Brule, and cake du jour with wine, French beer and soda for DD. The crème Brule was the only disappointment- it was undercooked and runny.
5/1- Ohana- What can I say about this? I dream about this food- I have already tried grilling turkey at home- I would consider a trip to WDW just to eat here. DH and I started with Lapu Lapu and it lived up to its reputation. We were seated just after 5:00 and our server brought the starters right away. We all loved it. The meats were perfectly grilled and I would love a recipe for the peanut sauce. They were very nice about accommodating DD with a hotdog. DD enjoyed the coconut race. The pineapple was the perfect finish. I now want to stay at Poly next trip just so I can easily eat here a couple of times.

5/2- Restaurant Marrakesh- We went because DD wanted to belly dance. She did, so we were not sorry we went, however I did not enjoy my meal and the service was practically non-existent. We went in at 6:00 and they were not busy but the wait-staff were standing in groups talking while glasses stayed empty. I enjoyed the Beef Brewat Rolls but the Couscous was soggy with vegetables that had ALL the life and flavor cooked out of them. DD had the usual kids meal. The show was enjoyable but not good enough to entice us back after the poor food and service.
5/3 We snacked our way around the World Showcase. Some favorites were Kaki Gori and Italian Ice.
5/4 Departure Day- We wanted an early dinner at The Earl of Sandwich but it was mobbed and we had to get back to meet the car service. We ended up getting Sundaes at Ghirardelli and 1800 Margaritas at Captain Jacks (Yummy). DH says that these margaritas are the best ever and he should know. DD only nibbled on a sundae this day. The virtual games at DQ left her a little queasy.
We had planned a dinner at Whispering Canyon but our airline problem caused us to cancel this as well. Well just have to go back!
It was a great trip- no crowds, nice weather, and great food. I now return to a few years of lurking.
