So we made our first stop at the Rose and Crown.

Had a 6:50 ressie and after reading on the boards that we'd be pushing it to expect to still be there by Illuminations, I tried to change it to a later time. No luck for the last 30 days. Oh well.

Checked in at 6:50 and saw many people without ressies being turned away. Asked for a seat outside and we were told they would "note it" (standard WDW phrase for we will do our best but no promises). Strolled over to the bandstand to listen to music. Not bad at all and it was nice to see so many different age groups into music from the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Finally got "buzzed" at 7:30. I was thrilled with this because I knew we'd make it to 9PM. Got our seat outside on the second level up. Not perfect for watching Illuminations, but it was still great and I am not going to sqwauk. We could have been inside.

As soon as we sat our waiter, James, told us he was not going to let us leave before the show. He has 8 months left on his gig there, so ask for him. He was fantastic.

The food was very good and seeing the show from our dinner table was a great experience. Fish and Chips, Shepherd's pie and Sunday Roast went off without a hitch. DW's medium rare sirloin came out well done. A little kitchen mix-up that was resolved in 5 minutes. No complaints.

Definitely a keeper for us.

It's good to hear that this is still a good stop. We've eatten here in the past and it has always been a good meals for us too.

Thanks for the report.:thumbsup2

Yay!
Now I am MORE excited for our december trip ...HOping it's not too cold to sit outside!!

I love the R&C :goodvibes Always get great service, love the pub and the food is good to boot!

Rose & Crown has been solid on our list of favorites for 25 years.

How was Illuminations from there?

We have never eaten and Rose and Crown, but we have a 7:50pm dinner reservation in January and this is going to be where we really celebrate our 10th Anniversary. I'm going to request outside, but we will probably have already seen Illuminations earlier in the week, so if we don't get it we won't be disappointed.

Same here. We have reservations in September at 7:45pm hoping to see illuminations. Im going to check in early but hopefully we will be good. I made them a little over a month ago so it didnt seem to be crowded.

we got a reservation for 7:45 at R&C the first night we'll all be together @ WDW this december with the hopes of watching illuminations...i'm very excited about it! :cutie:

one of our party members will be having their birthday, so we're hoping that will help us get a good view. haha

I'm so glad to hear a glowing review! Mom and I are going in January and hope to get outside seating for the Illuminations show. She has never seen it before so this will be really special for her. I have never dined there before either.

Thanks for your review. I love R&C - it is our traditional arrival day lunch, so we can start the trip with a good meal and a pint! :hippie:

Thanks for the review, I have a 7:35pm ressie on our last night and was hopeing to get an outside table but now I am wondering since your ressie was much earlier, whether I will have a chance of getting one or not. DH and I love their fish & chips but have never ate there during IllumiNations so I have my fingers crossed.

If you don't get an outside table let your server know that you want to see Illuminations. Right before the show they will take you to an area that is reserved for Rose & Crown customers. You have to stand but it is a great view. Last time we were there we ate our meal and then ordered our desserts. The server took us to the viewing area then we went back to the table after Illuminations was over and our desserts were waiting for us.

I have seen Illuminations from R&C a few times and although it is a nice treat to be outside it isn't a deal breaker to be inside. The food is really solid except I always think the chips are underdone.

Don't panic if you are inside.

Agree about inside. It's nice and the viewing area is great. We had hoped to be outside but it was raining so only top half of deck was open. And they were already way behind on ressies cuz earlier folks weren't leaving due to the rain. Our ADR was for 715pm. We ate inside and stood in viewing area to watch illuminations in the rain and it was still awesome!
