(short review)

Even though we had a pretty good sized lunch at Brown Derby, we thought we might want a snack before our 9:40 priority seating at the California Grill that evening. We spent the rest of the day at Epcot, and by the time our stomachs were growling and we were getting cranky, we had headed back over to Future World and were sitting in the Land Pavilion. Sometimes Mike’s noncommittal answers are frustrating, and sometimes they can lead to problems, as they did this time.

I had quizzed Mike as to where he would like to get a snack, and I suggested Canada, Mexico, or Norway, since they were the closest countries. He shrugged at each one of them, and then went off to the restroom while I checked the menus at the Sunshine Season Food Fair. I was looking for something light, and had always thought the Land salad ($6.39) sounded interesting. When Mike came back, he shrugged again at eating at the Land, so since we were already there, I decided to go ahead and order. There also was a black bean soup as one of the soups of the day ($2.89), so I ordered that as well, both of the items for us to share. Unfortunately they only had caffeine free diet Coke, which we don’t like, so we relied on the water bottles in my backpack.

There was no line, even though it was dinner time ( 6 PM), and we went up to the register and quickly ordered. Our food was placed on a tray, and away we went to find a seat. There were plenty of tables open, and we chose one by the fountain.

The salad had a very tart balsamic vinaigrette dressing, a somewhat fatty chicken breast, julienned ham, cucumbers, tomatoes, and croutons. It didn’t just come with the dressing, it was swimming in the dressing. The tartness was to an unpleasant degree, so not only was it a lot of dressing, it was a lot of bad dressing. Mike found more than one pretty fatty piece of chicken, and the rest of the salad was somewhat tasteless. The croutons were decent, though. The breadstick was warm, but it was also stale. The soup was another disaster. It was extremely salty, pretty watery, and didn’t have much taste besides the salt.

We were very surprised to find this, as we had been in the past and had good meals. We’ve had a baked potato combo meal that was great, that came with salad, a cookie, and a baked potato. I hope we just went during an off time. I wouldn’t recommend the salad, though, but if you must, ask for the dressing on the side.

I know that at lunch, it can be very busy and hard to find a seat, and the lines to order can be very long, as well. Since I’ve had a good experience before, I can’t not recommend it, but as I said, I wouldn’t order the salad. After we ate, I found out that Mike’s noncommittal shrugs meant that he really did want to go to Mexico. Who could have known?

This would be a decent place for a meal in a pinch, if you're on a budget, or if everyone wants something different and you don't feel like traveling all over the "World." I would recommend stopping somewhere over in the World Showcase, though, because there are many different and delicious food choices on the other side of Epcot.

That's too bad! I hope it was just an "off" night. We've eaten there a few times over the years and have always liked it a lot. We ate there in May and I had the chicken ceasar salad and enjoyed it very much. It has always been one of our favorite counter service places.

I know! That's part of the reason we were extra disappointed - not only was the food bad, but it had been great in the past. I know that all restaurants can have their off days, though.
