I will be on the Wonder in May with my 8-yr-old grandaughter. This will be the first cruise for both of us. I am planning to book the glass bottom boat at Castaway and the Dolphin Encounter in Nassau .... I would apprecaite any comments from those of you who have experienced those two adventures.

My suggestion is that you not overpromise for your grand-daughter and have her be disappointed.

We were booked for the 2:15 pm glass bottom boat yesterday at Castaway Cay. The day was great, warm and sunny. When we showed up for the boat, they told us they had decided to cancel as the tide was low and the water was a bit choppy. They said it was for safety as they were concerned that they might hit something and break the glass bottom.

My wife and I were disappointed, but not as much as an 8 year old might have been if they had been looking forward to the ride for a long time.

I did the Glass Bottom Boat on Castaway Cay.

We didn't realize that the we'd be standing the entire time. There are two wells in the base of the ship surrounded by metal rails. At the bottom are the glass windows. There are two small benches at one end of each rail, but you'd have to lean way over to try to see down the well if you sat there.

The boat gives off a lot of deisel fumes. It didn't bother me that much but I could see others trying to cover their noses and looking a bit "green".

The gentleman conducting the tour was very nice. He talked about the Bahamas and gave us some info about Castaway Cay. We finally arrived at our destination, a reef. To be honest, it's not exactly teeming with fish. The thing that they seem to get most excited over is a large brain coral.

We next stopped at a reef that's forming. That did had more fish. The tour conductor also fed some fish.

I found it to be a bit boring, and the kids onboard appeared to share that sentiment.

We did the glass bottom boat on Castaway Cay in Jan 05 and it was OK, but not what I expected. We saw some yellow fish when he feed them and the "brain" coral. That was it. I guess if you go not expecting much then you will be happy, but I do not recomend it based on our experience.
