Fayetteville picks up win over 'improved' Bulldogs
From staff reports
04-09-2004
FAYETTEVILLE With the area championship clinched and a gift-wrapped lead after one inning, you couldnt really blame a team for getting lackadaisical.
But Fayetteville baseball coach Chris Sherbert{***OUR COACH SHERBERT!!! We miss him!!!} was quick to point out that wasnt the entire story behind his teams 13-6 win over Winterboro on Thursday.
"Winterboro is a much improved team since the first time we played them," Sherbert said. "They made some plays they had to make today."
Winterboros starter Corey Barkley struggled early on in the first inning. His struggles turned into a six-run frame for the homestanding Wolves.
Adam Hardy took over for Barkley and pitched seven strong innings, allowing only two earned runs and four hits.
"Were getting better," Winterboro coach George Dye said. "We played pretty good defense in spots, there were just some wild pitches and passed balls that killed us."
Kevin Davidson{***thats the kevin i talk about sometimes!!} got the start for the Wolves and went the first two innings. Joey Smith{***thats joey, the hottie in drama!!} came on in the third to pick up the win. Chris Williams{***yep, that's the guy i used to like!!} worked the final three innings to earn the save.
Michael Windsor and DeAngelo Gamble both had two hits apiece for Fayetteville (12-3). Joey Smith added a double and Matt Carpenter had a hit.
"We just never could get a hold of a ball," Sherbert said. "We were hitting it we only had one strikeout we just couldnt hit it solid."
Six different players all recorded one hit apiece for the Bulldogs (1-9). Terry Edwards, Barkley, Qualon Millender, Justin Lackey, Hardy and Trey Willis all had singles.
Fayetteville visits Edward Bell for the final area game today at 3:30 p.m. Winterboro will resume action on Monday, when it travels to Donoho.
we won at edward bell too!!!!!!!!!
I just thought that was cool, and thought i'd post it!!
