Fayetteville picks up win over 'improved' Bulldogs
From staff reports
04-09-2004

FAYETTEVILLE — With the area championship clinched and a gift-wrapped lead after one inning, you couldn’t really blame a team for getting lackadaisical.
But Fayetteville baseball coach Chris Sherbert{***OUR COACH SHERBERT!!! We miss him!!!} was quick to point out that wasn’t the entire story behind his team’s 13-6 win over Winterboro on Thursday.

"Winterboro is a much improved team since the first time we played them," Sherbert said. "They made some plays they had to make today."

Winterboro’s starter Corey Barkley struggled early on in the first inning. His struggles turned into a six-run frame for the homestanding Wolves.

Adam Hardy took over for Barkley and pitched seven strong innings, allowing only two earned runs and four hits.

"We’re getting better," Winterboro coach George Dye said. "We played pretty good defense in spots, there were just some wild pitches and passed balls that killed us."

Kevin Davidson{***thats the kevin i talk about sometimes!!} got the start for the Wolves and went the first two innings. Joey Smith{***thats joey, the hottie in drama!!} came on in the third to pick up the win. Chris Williams{***yep, that's the guy i used to like!!} worked the final three innings to earn the save.

Michael Windsor and DeAngelo Gamble both had two hits apiece for Fayetteville (12-3). Joey Smith added a double and Matt Carpenter had a hit.

"We just never could get a hold of a ball," Sherbert said. "We were hitting it — we only had one strikeout — we just couldn’t hit it solid."

Six different players all recorded one hit apiece for the Bulldogs (1-9). Terry Edwards, Barkley, Qualon Millender, Justin Lackey, Hardy and Trey Willis all had singles.

Fayetteville visits Edward Bell for the final area game today at 3:30 p.m. Winterboro will resume action on Monday, when it travels to Donoho.

we won at edward bell too!!!!!!!!! :teeth: ::yes:: ::yes::

I just thought that was cool, and thought i'd post it!!:teeth:

ok, maybe i have too much school spirit or something, but i am LOVING these articles!!:teeth: This one is AWESOME!!!!!::yes:: ::yes::

Fayetteville foursome picks up second straight no-no
From staff reports
03-17-2004

FAYETTEVILLE — No matter who you’re playing, when you throw a no-hitter, you’ve done something.
And though the two wins were lopsided, Fayetteville picked up its second no-hitter in four days.

Four pitchers combined to no-hit Edward Bell in a 16-2 five-inning win Tuesday. Friday Travis Whaley{talk about a hottie!!! this boy is FINE!!} no-hit Talladega County Central after the Wolves lost to the Fighting Tigers in the first game of the doubleheader.

Whaley struck out nine and walked three in Saturday’s 21-0 win.

Amazingly, Whaley was not a part of Tuesday’s no-hitter.

"The two runs they scored we walked in," Fayetteville coach Chris Sherbert said. "We pretty much shut them down from start to finish, but we called the dogs off pretty early, too."

Brett Lovett{my big cousin!!} got the start. He went two innings and struck out four. Marcus Huntley pitched the third, Kyle Butler{chris's best friend, and a cutie too} pitched the fourth and Steven Vick{another then9th grader[now a 10th grader] he's too wild for me though..ick, he's rude too} worked the fifth.

The Fayetteville staff combined for 13 strikeouts on the day.

Huntley’s appearance was his first-ever time to take the mound in varsity competition. He was awarded the win because Lovett didn’t work the minimum number of innings.

In addition to the outstanding performances on the mound, Fayetteville got some pretty good ones at the plate, too.

Joey Smith{see, hot, AND he can play some baseball!! hehe!!} was 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Matt Taft also had three hits.

Huntley and Whaley had two hits and two RBIs. Lovett and Chris Williams{woohoo chris and brett!!} had a hit and a RBI.

Fayetteville scored six runs in the first, five in the second, four in the third and one more in the fourth.

The win improves the Wolves to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the area. Fayetteville had two no-hitters last year — one over Edward Bell and another against Bibb Graves.

WooHoo!!!!!:teeth:

Wolves hold Munford at bay
From staff reports
03-12-2004

FAYETTEVILLE — With Munford's tying run at third base, Fayetteville kept it there in the seventh inning to hold off the Lions 5-4. It was the fifth win of the season for the Wolves.
Brett Lovett picked up the win for the Wolves allowing just one hit over five innings. Despite pitching a strong game, the Wolves’ defense did not follow suit.

Five Fayetteville errors created almost all of the Lions’ run production.

"We can not continue to do that and still expect to win," Fayetteville coach Chris Sherbert said. "But you’ve got to give the guys one thing — we have battled back this year."

Fayetteville jumped on Munford with two runs in the first inning. Munford answered back with two runs in the third to tie the game and two more in the top of the fifth.

Fayetteville added three runs in the bottom of the fifth to set the final.

After Lovett’s five innings of work, Davidson came on and picked up the save. He worked the final two innings and allowed no hits and struck out three.

Charlie Williams{WooHoo, that's chris's older brother} led the Wolves (5-1) at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance. Joey Smith and Michael Windsor both had two hits apiece. Matt Taft, in his first game back since elbow surgery, had a two-RBI single.

Fayetteville had 11 hits as a team. The Wolves will play host to TC Central in a doubleheader today.

a bit from an article....:teeth:

Just as happy as Fayetteville was with its bats, the Wolves were equally pleased with the showing on the mound. Whaley started the game and lasted until the fourth inning. He gave up five hits and struck out four before Kevin Davidson entered the fourth with no outs.

Davidson earned the win finishing out the game. The freshman gave up four hits, one walk and struck out five.

In addition to the strong performances on the mound, Fayetteville still has an ace in the hole. With the Wolves’ basketball team making it to the postseason, some of those players will be ready to enter the rotation soon.

Kevin played an awesome game!!::yes:: Marcus, Sergio, Brett, and a few others were on the basketball team, so they didnt play the first few games:crazy:

Wolves find will to win
From staff reports
02-04-2004

FAYETTEVILLE — With pivotal area games like Edward Bell and Wadley behind it, you can’t blame Fayetteville if it was a little drained.
But drained or not, the Wolves found a way to win Tuesday night.

Daniel Crowe scored 13 points in the second quarter and connected on baskets at crucial points in the game as Fayetteville dusted off Shades Mountain Christian 69-53.

"The best thing about this win was the guys found a way to win when emotionally we weren’t there," assistant coach Carson Grier said.

Shades Mountain Christian cut into Fayetteville’s 10-point halftime lead during the third quarter, pulling to within 50-45 by the end of the third quarter.

Fayetteville turned it on once more during the contest to outscore the Eagles 19-8 in that final quarter.

Crowe finished with 18 points for the Wolves (12-6). DeAngelo Gamble led the way with 21. Serigo Crowe chipped in 15 points to round out their double-figure scorers.

i forgot that Daniel was on the baseball team...he also missed the first few baseball games!!!:teeth:

woohoo...more basketball news!!!!

He{Sergio Crowe} finished with a game-high 20 points and connected on four 3-pointers. His older brother, Daniel Crowe, followed with 15 points. DeAngelo Gamble added 12 points and Travis Whetstone added nine points and nine rebounds.

"I just tried to let the game come to me," the younger Crowe said. "I just wanted to do whatever I could. The (area title) was real important to us."
