returns without receipt?

Anyone know who will take a return without a receipt? My son got a few lego set duplicates for birthday gifts, without gift receipts. I know Toys R Us wont exchange, but what about some of the others -- wALMART? Target? Kmart, etc? Any suggestions on who to try? I dont know where the items were bought, but it's the stuff everybody carries -- I'd be happy with store credit.

Walmart used to give you about 3 returns without a receipt per year. (They go by your driver's license.) I haven't done it in a few months, so I am hoping they still do that. My sons were just given a video game for a system we don't have, of course the relative doesn't have the receipt. I am hoping they'll let me exchange it since it hasn't been opened! I certainly don't give out $50 gifts to the bday parties my sons go to, plus, they want to play their game!

If all else fails, I will probably ebay it.

I ave a new DS Lite that my MIL got my DD do you think Walmart (that IS where it came from) will let me trade it for a DSi which is what my DD wants I know I would have to pay the difference. It has never even been opened as it is a Christmas gift. I haven't exchanged anything at Walmart in a long long time so I don't know the rules.

Most stores that will do this will only give you the lowest sale price they've had in the past 3, 4 or 6 months. You won't get what was paid for it or even close to what was paid for it. Since this is lego, is there a problem with having duplicate sets? Doesn't that just mean he has more pieces and duplicates of a few specialty pieces which he can likely find a use for anyway? My kids would be thrilled with more legos even if it meant duplicates. You can never have too many legos (unless of course they're underfoot LOL).

Our Target will let you return up to $70 per year without a receipt, don't know if it is just ours or all stores, and they give you a gift card. I have a Lego maniac and know he would rather pick out a different set than have a duplicate and will probably be in the same boat as you in Dec after his birthday. Good luck!

Just returned a tinkerbell leapfrog game to walmart that was a duplicate with no reciept. But you only get an in store credit. And must show ID.

Walmart will but only for instore credit.... they do track it though with your DL and will flag you if you have "Two Many"

At this point, I would save it and donate it to Toys for Tots and give your son some cash (if you like) to make up for it. Most kids would be happy with $10-$15 in their pocket.

Try craigslist or ebay first. Lego's are hot sellers around this time.

I'm another one for donating it and giving your son some cash. It's that toys for tots time of year and plenty of little boys out there would be thrilled with the donation of a Lego set!

Also, in the interest of full disclosure, I'm kind of against "shopping around" for a lenient returns policy when you're pretty sure the toy didn't come from that store in the first place. When that kind of behavior hits a tipping point, it just makes stores institute really draconian policies that make it harder and harder for legit customers to return things.

I dont know how close you are to a store but the LEGO store will take returns with out receipts. My husband LOVES LEGOs and has been knows to fly to Orlando with duplicate sets packed away in his suitcase to return to the LEGO store at DTD.

My Walmart has always taken returns w/o receipts w/o any problem. You would, of course, only get in store credit. I use the in-store credit for groceries and give my DD the cash.

I will no longer shop at the Disney Store or Toys R Us because they won't allow returns without receipts.

I would try Target or Walmart if you want to return.

I have something to try to return today to Target without a receipt. It was $79 so I hope the above poster is not correct that it can only be $79 or less.

I only want a Target card though, not cash.

I know the Targets in our area will not take anything without a receipt. I had a friend that tried to exchange some Christmas lights that were brand new and did not work and Target would not even let her exchange them. They were still in the original box and the brand was Target.

Target just changed their return policy last month. You can now return any item(s) up to $70 as many times as you want. Previously, you were only allowed two returns per calendar year up to $35 each time.

Walmart allows return of 3 items without a receipt every 45 days.

Target just changed their return policy last month. You can now return any item(s) up to $70 as many times as you want. Previously, you were only allowed two returns per calendar year up to $35 each time.

This is mostly true but to clarify, it is not items up to $70 as many times as you want. It is a total of $70 per year and as many returns as it takes to reach that $70 mark. Over and above that, food that is carried by Target is always returnable even once the $70 limit is reached as are clothing items that are still in the system. There are also allowances for guests who have a registry.

Dawn, what will happen is the item will be scanned when you bring it in and the system will tell the person helping you what the lowest price in the past 90 days was. That is the price you will get on a GC if you don't have a receipt. If the item was not on sale in the past 90 days, then I'm afraid the system will lock out the return.
Is there any chance that you paid with something other than cash so that the team member can do a lookup for you?
