I'm getting ready to buy DH some clothes with my Kohls Cash tomorrow. He's tough to buy for so I was wondering how I would be refunded if I need to return something I bought with the Kohls Cash. IIRC they give you a gift card but their policies have changed in the past and I wanted to make certain. If you don't get a refund I'm buying for me! :lmao:

It really seems to be one of those things that varies by each store. Your best bet might be to call your local store and ask. If they say returns/exchanges are allowed make sure you write down the date, time and who you talked to incase it is a problem later.

Or you could just spend it all on what you want:laughing:

It has been my experience that you do not get the Kohls cash back. They prorate the KC off of everything you buy and if you return it you loose that portion. Excanges for same product (different size or color) are allowed. I have found it best to split the purchase and use KC only on something you are 100% sure you will keep.

That is what I was going to say too. Only use Kohls Cash on something you know you will keep. Otherwise you lose it.

I think a better name for it would be a Kohls Cash Coupon. It is treated more like a coupon. Once it is spent, it is spent. You don't get the coupon (Kohls Cash) back.

I thought the last time I returned something I had purchased with Kohls cash that they gave me a merchandise credit for the same amount I purchased it for.

Get a gift receipt for the purchases you are iffy on. Can't believe I am admitting to this but...my sis and I went shopping for Christmas one year, had about a hundred in kohl's cash we weren't going to use, so...we bought a coat, got a gift receipt, returned the coat, and now we had a merchandise credit good for longer than the 8-10 days or so. That was a long time ago.

Recently at our Khols we are allowed to return items purchased with Khols Cash and get a Merchandise Credit if the returns happened during the time frame that the Khols cash could be used. If the returns happen outside that timeframe then I think they take off the Khols cash amount first and then return the rest of the funds to you

They no longer do that. Now, if you purchased a coat and spent $30 in cash and $10 in Kohls Cash for it, you only get your $30 back. Or you could opt to get $20 in cash and get the $10 back as an in store credit. But no longer do you get refunded for the full amount of what you spent and the Kohls Cash.

So the buying stuff with Kohls Cash and returning it for in store credit no longer works. And people doing that is probably a big reason why it no longer works.

I agree.

In my experience, if you RECEIVED KC for a purchase, you are out of luck on a return unless you have not redeemed the KC. They will subtract the amount of KC you received off the top of any return. I have argued this many times. For instance, I spend $130 and get $20 KC. I return an item worth $25, they still subtract $20 from the refund even though I would have gotten $20 in KC (my total would have been $105) w/o that item. I would only get $5 back of my own money.

If you PURCHASE an item w/ KC (use it as tender) and then return, you will receive a merchandise credit for the KC.

I have done multiple returns at Kohl's and it has ALWAYS worked this way for me with no exceptions. I make sure if I am going to receive KC, that I am 100% sure I am keeping that item.

OP here - I went to Kohl's website and it gives conflicting information.

From the details section under "Redeem Your Kohls Cash Now":

"Return value of merchandise purchased with a Kohl’s Cash® Coupon may be subject to adjustment."

From the Kohls Cash FAQ:

"If you are making a return or price adjustment on an item you bought with Kohl's Cash®, the value of the Kohl's Cash® coupon will be returned as a Kohl's Merchandise Credit."

They don't even know the correct answer! :sad2:

It looks like I'll be buying for me today.

I'm looking at a Kohls receipt from a few weeks ago. I purchased items and received $10 Kohls cash but I did not use it.

The original purchase receipt says Special Offer -$10.00 (the Kohls cash). The items I bought on the original receipt were $19.50 & $9.00. The amount on my return receipt was $16.31 & $7.53. Plus, this zeroed my Kohls cash. It states at the bottom of the return receipt "THIS RETURN REDUCED THE VALUE OF KOHL'S CASH BY $10.00. REMAINING BALANCE $0.00"
