Does anyone have recent experience with having to returning a rental car late at DOLLAR? Should we re-book. There is a 59.00 increase for 1 extra hour.

Most likely, they will charge you for it. Happened to my neighbor, they took their time getting to MCO and paid zero attention to the drop off time and didn't think they would have to pay a late charge. Found out the hard way that even an hour is considered late. YMMV.

Thanks. I should have mentioned we are picking up at noon and dropping off at 11:00 am.

I usually pad my return time - if I take the car out at 2pm, I simply say returning at 2pm even if I plan to return at 10am. Only had them fuss at me one time for early return (did not charge anything, just acted cranky). Most companies used to allow a 1 hour over, but I would not plan on that anymore.

And changing the drop off time until Noon adds $59? That doesn't seem right.

What if you change your drop off time to 11:40A? I think most car places give you a 30 minute grace period. So if you're scheduled back at 11:40, and return at Noon, that's within the grace period.

Same thing I do and never had any issues returning early. The problem with returning late is that when the rental company is rapidly turning around cars, it messes up their plan for the next renter. Also could impact your rate if the rental company used a daily/weekly rate for your particular situation.

If your flight arrival/departure has changed significantly, I would adjust my car reservation times to avoid issues.

I do the same thing. I book for the max time that I can without increasing the cost. Usually end up returning early and have never had an issue with that, but love having the peace of mind that I'm not racing the clock to make a return on time.

Thanks everyone. We will try to take advantage of the 30 min grace period and just get to the airport a little early. I have no idea what is going on with November rates, but a 10 rental (if I rebook for an extra hour) is almost 200.00 higher.

The price is changing so much because you are repricing the entire rental at the current price and not just the extra hour. There will always be a spot on the contract where it tells you how much extra you'll get charged for each of the first three hours and then what you'd get charged for an extra day.
