Returning coach gifts? update ..

If you decide to go the Ebay route, first have them authenticated on the purse, shoes and accessories forum. The folks there will look at your photos of the exterior and interior of the bags and give their opinion.

If you get caught selling fakes on Ebay, you can get banned, so I'm trying to give you a heads up.

Well, as a HUGE Coach addict, I can say that if they are the typical canvas bag with the "C" all over it, there is probably an $80 percent chance that it is a knock off... even the SMALLEST Coach bag at an outlet is still around $100... and if it's a larger bag, well, some are upwards of $300.

What 16-year-old has that! WHAT PARENT is nuts enough to hand off that much for a gift! :rotfl:

Anyways, to tell if hers are fake, look at the bag... it should have it's own certification number on a strip of leather inside. Does yours have that? If the certification number isn't on leather, it's a fake.

If OP is from NY, then I bet they are real. In my experience, my friends in in NYC will often purchase $100+ items for special occasions like a Sweet 16.

OP --- I see you are from NY and knock-offs are so easily purchased in the City. If they were purchased at Macy's (or another retail store) I think there would be some sort of tag on them to identify where they were purchased; don't know why all three people would have cut off the entire tags, rather than cutting off just the price and leaving the store name on it.

I did give an update on my first post..

Yes one of them are real I found a Macy's gift receipt in the bag. Now for the others... not really sure I will bring them to the tanger outlet by us and they will tell me if they are real or not.

Why are people so rude on the Dis? Who cares if the daughter received Coach purses for her birthday. Her family may run in a different circle than others, just how it is. OP, ebay, craigslist and other sites are good for selling the items if you can't return them.

 I was like, "Couch gifts? What the heck?"

I wondered if it was a *name* for the stuff that gets lost in the couch cushions!!!!

hey, here on the DIS, you just never know...:rotfl:

Me too. I was picturing a few coins, some fuzz, maybe a paperclip...:lmao:

I am not sure if this is a location thing but as a huge Coach addict you can easily get a medium sized bag for $100 or so at our factory stores. I had a friend who walked out with a large tote, two wristlets and a keychain for about $300.

These are outlets only of course.

It's easy to tell if the Coach bags are made for Outlets though. They usually have F listed on the 2nd half of the serial number beneath the Coach creed.

That's a good idea. I was going to suggest that since you had the one receipt you could compare that bag to the others, the stitching on the knock offs is not as heavy or nice as the real ones. Sounds like you have it under control.

No one was being rude just didn't want the OP to get into trouble for selling them on ebay with out knowing that they were authentic.

I didn't know that! Probably b/c ALL of mine came from an outlet. Thanks for the info, but don't tell my peers. LOL

Actually, you can return an outlet purchase at a regular Coach store but you will only get store credit for the purchase. I did this a few months ago BUT I had the receipt. Not quite sure what you are going to be able to do without a receipt.

Oh and some Factory Outlets have a bullseye stamped on them. Both are ways of denoting that they came from outlets. Ones stamped with an F are usually made for the Factory Outlet stores (so I was told by staff). They are usually 'models' they are testing out to see how they sell and what people like.

I admit I have a few Outlet purchases myself. I really like some of the ones that are sold there. And obviously the price ($100 for a $400 purse) is a big bonus for me :)

To the OP if you sell on Ebay and cannot guarantee that they are authentic, I would post tons of pictures of it and just say received as a gift. Many are willing to bet on those, but they usually are not able to demand the prices as new with tag verified authentics. Just a thought to add.

my coach purse came in a beautiful brown glossy box, with a big silk ribbon on it. In the box the bag was in a brown soft cotton bag. Plus there was a certificate and and authentication number.
