Got back on the 26th from the Wonder.

We added an extra night onto the Poly portion of the trip and got in on Wednesday the 18th.

I have nothing but great words to say about the Poly. The grounds are beautiful. The Disney staff did a Herculean job of cleaning up after Charley. There were several stumps left in the ground yet,,one tiki torch was still on the ground by the bus pickup station, but it was really hard to tell that Charley went through. If you are booked for the Poly in the near future, don't worry the resort and parks are in great shape. Most of the damage you may notice is along side the roads within Disney property. The groves of trees there still have some snapped and uprooted trees visable.

Pray for the families that were affected. Flying in you could see there were thousands of roofs in the Olando area covered with blue tarp. I can't imagine what it must look like on the Gulf Coast.

We did the "Spirit of Aloha" our first night. We all loved it. It was a great show and the food was wonderful. I would highly recommend it.

We ate at "Ohana's" and we also loved the food here and I would even say the show. They cook over a large open pit BBQ using split oak to keep the fires going. The food is on large squers (sp?), the waiters come up to your table and push off as much of your choice of meat as you like, beef, chicken, pork and shrimp. Along with some great side dishes. Somewhere we have the menus of both places and if someone wants more info we can give it to you.

We loved the pool theming. and had a blast on the volcano slide. My DS (12) went on it dozens of times. Watched the fire works from the beach while eating Michey bars. My DS and I did the water mice and had a blast. You can't beat the view from the beach and trasportation was excelent.

The room was clean, and large; it was the first thing my wife mentioned when we walked in. We had a parking lot/monorail view for the add on night and asked if we could just stay there for the remaining land portion of our package. We did not stay in there very much and it did not matter to us about the view.

The only thing I would do different is; not go in the summer again. This fell over my DW 40th birthday and this is what she wanted to do to celebrate this milestone birthday. It was in the low to mid 90s with a heat index in the low hundreds. I can honestly say, if given a choice, I would take a colder than normal Minnesota winter than go through that kind of heat and humidity again. We knew going into it that it would be uncomfortable and we had a great time. We never were in a hurry to get from point A to B and drank lots of water. But never again.

And parents bringing young kids this time of year, give them a break. We saw a lot of hot, tired and cranky kids in the theme parks. Some with parents that were not very understanding of the situation.

If you have any questions we will be glad to answer any and all we can.

Glad you enjoyed your trip!

You are right--summer in FL is HOT!!! But it is usually when we go to WDW.

Thanks for the detailed report! I stopped reading some of the reports after hearing an unusual number of complaints about the Poly. I have yet to stay there but it is definitely the next resort we will be staying at! We resort hopped over there the last trip and were very impressed. I think we will have a horrible time keeping the kids away from the volcano pool! I could see it easily turning into a resort-only trip! ;) I agree about the heat and humidity. We went the end of May/beginning of June a few years ago and I could barely stand it. We went the 1st of March this past year and it was a dream!! Glad you were able to pace yourself and still have a great time.
Did you enjoy the Wonder? (How could anyone NOT?!) That's one vacation we want to return to again. Good thing we bought into the DVC...there's just too much to do and now we have the next 50 years to do it all!!! :)
Welcome back and thanks again for the report!!

Glad to hear you enjoyed the Poly !! We have 3day/4night on the Wonder & the Poly in March.:bounce:

How crowded does it get on the beach for Wishes ? I think we'll be doing that rather the fight the park crowd. Did you have to get there early to save a good spot ?

Have DS12, DS7, DD5 ... please give any adivse on cruise or hotel you my have !!

Thanks

We had a Wonderful time on the cruise. The weather doesn't get any cooler out on the ocean, slight breeze when the ship was moving. Castaway Cay is a beautiful spot, can't get enough time there. The Wonder is going into dry dock in October I believe and it needs it. It is looking a little rough around the edges, such as carpet, and the seats in the Walt Disney Theater. But it was still a great trip and the crew was fantastic.

I thought we would be battleing a crowd at the beach during the fireworks. We got there about 20 minutes early, found a very good viewing spot with beach lounge chairs and watched the fireworks. It never did get crowded. This was a Wednesday night. There were plenty of beach lounge chairs near the pool that could have been used if you wanted to sit. Just a note, you see the fireworks go off and about 5-6 seconds later you hear it. And you do NOT get any of the music or narration piped out to you at the beach if that is important to you.

If you decide to do "Spirit of Aloha" or dine at Ohana the food does have a Polynesian flare to it. My son is a little picky when it comes to eating but he said that there was a big enough selection for him to enjoy the meals there. He really enjoyed the show at "Spirit of Aloha" but beware, your 12 year old son is considered and adult at both places paying adult prices, $23.99 at Ohana 3-11 $9.99. I think "Spirit of Aloha" was around $40.00/adult never looked into the price per child.

Don't miss the shows on the Wonder they are spectacular. My son wanted to see a movie during one of the shows but remember you can always rent the movie at home, it will be a while before you get the chance to see one of the performances.

If your kids give you enough time to do Palo, go there. It is an additional $10.00 per person to eat at Palo but it is worth it. Of course that means you have to miss one of the dinning rooms, I wouldn't miss Triton's. I think it is fun to get the family dressed up, and get your picture taken in front of the large picture of the ship. It's in the lobby going to Triton's.

You won't be able to do everything, gives you another reason to go back.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one choosing to spend their 40th at the Poly!! I'll be doing that this coming March.

ROFLOL at the comment Heat vs Winters!! I read it outloud to dh, and he just said "I didnt think it was that bad"! LOL I did!!

we stayed at the poly pre charlie and I too loved the theme, the atmosphere, the CM's, the heat and humidity just fit right into the theming at the Poly!! LOL DD 7 LOVED the pool so much, we didnt have to be in disney!! We also did OHana's , the puu puu plater they set before you is fabulous! I loved the salad dressing, found the recipe online, but just wasnt the same imho!!

I've seen other posts about the room coloring, and after a week I have no idea it was just a comfy cozy room for us!! I mean the color of the mirror made no diff for us!!
