Which is better to bring for character signatures? Retractable is great because it prevents losing a cap. But I've heard characters have a hard time handling the smaller ones when they're in the oversized costumes.

The non-face characters did seem to have an easier time with fat ones so that is what I chose. I just always held the cap and then capped the pen myself.

i recommend retractable. i used it on my solo trip last year for both face and fur characters and they did not have a problem with them plus like you said no cap to lose.
i always made sure that is was clicked to write with when i handed it to them.
and i do think there is such a thing as too fat for the characters to handle.
most people just recommend that you don't use a standard size pen for fur characters because they are quite skinny.

We used the retractable ones and none of the characters seemed to have any problem with them... and we got A LOT of autographs.

We also used the retractable ones and they worked perfectly. I originally bought ones that were too thin and after reading comments on here I got the retractable ones and I'm so glad I did.

Retractable. Just don't use green sharpies - the ink is impossible to get out.

Personal experience? :scratchin

My grandkids used the retractables also, worked fine everywhere.
Yep. I can get any other color out, but green is absolutely impossible.

There have been reports here and there of character handlers asking people not to use green sharpies.
