Anyone been to WDW who has retinal detachment?
Looking for advice about going on rides?
Doc says I should be ok but have reservations based on research online.
Year and half ago, right after coming back from WDW, in 3 months time i had 4 laser procedures in left eye and had to have full buckle in right eye. Been ok since but am concerned for Sept 10 trip.

DS now 18 has had a buckle since he was 6 mo old for a retinal detachment. We were never given any kind of restictions and he had done everything at WDW as well as many other theme parks many times. Unless there is concern about the other eye I would just follow the advice of your doctor.

Thanks for your advice. Glad to hear the good news about your son.
I didn't elaborate on my background though. In addition to the retinal detachment I have had 4 eye surgeries, 2 for glaucoma, 1 in each eye, then 2 more for cataracts (age 47) due to glaucoma side effects. This and extreme far vision 20/400 before surgeries left eye walls very thin and brittle. I am just cautious due to the fact that the tears in the retina and the floaters happened right after going on Dinosoaur, TOT and other rides.

I just wanted to say you never know what causes these things to happen. Dad tore both of his Retinas while throwing up one day. He damages his eyes easier than most people because he has bad diabetes and he is a bad diabetic.

If you are nervous dont do the more severe rides. Just enjoy the calm stuff. Stay off the really fast stuff. I think rides with a lot of wind might do more damage than others but I had an asthma attack yesterday on Aerosmith because of the wind and my own screaming.

I had no problems several years ago when I was at WDW with a detached retina. My doc also had no restrictions and I rode everything. The only times I have had a restriction is when I had a gas bubble after surgery. I too have had many eye surgeries, but the rides at WDW have had no bad effects. Hav a great time!
