Rethinking Tony's

I thought I had all of our dining plans ironed out and settled, but now I'm flipflopping on the idea of having lunch at Tony's Town Square on our MK day. I have until May before we go, but I feel soooo compelled to figure this out now. I guess this is what happens when you plan early, huh? :rotfl:

I haven't been reading good reviews about Tony's lately, and I do understand that a lot of it really does come to personal taste. But I'm also thinking about the time consumption of eating there. This will be our only day at MK and our first WDW experience, and while I know we won't be able (and don't even want to try) to fit everything in, having lunch at Tony's would take up a lot of touring time, wouldn't it?

We do have 6:10 ADRs for Boma for that evening, so we will have a sit down meal that day. Would it be most logical to cancel Tony's and opt for a CS meal instead? Oh, and we'll be on DxDP if that makes a difference. Also, I've heard that early May is a good time to go (we'll be at MK on the 8th)--how crowded do you think the CS places will be, and is there a particular place you would avoid?

TIA!

Are you planning a day at AK and can you do Boma that day? It will take a chunk of time out of your MK day to have dinner at Boma.

I think skipping lunch at Tony's is a good idea if you have another bigger TS planned for the day. Perhaps try for a ressie at the Plaza instead.

After pouring over the Dis Boards for about a month I cancelled my ressie at Tony's and switched it to Crystal Palace. Just thought I would weigh in.

Thanks for the replies.

As for Boma ... It's really the only day we can fit it in (we aren't doing AK this trip), and it's a must-try restaurant and therefore isn't flexible. I figure that, by that time of the day, the boys (they'll be 5 and 13) will be willing to take a break. We plan to go back to MK after dinner for the rest of the evening.

I think I will go ahead and cancel Tony's as well. And I think we'll wing lunch that day. There are so many rides and attractions that I don't think I want to pin us down to eat lunch at a specific time, kwim?

Thanks again!

Personally I think doing sit downs for both lunch and dinner are too much.
Usually when we have a dinner planned liked Bomas we eat a late breakfast and just have a snack for lunch. Bomas has alot of choices and you'll want to go hungry!

Try Columbia Harbour House for lunch. It often looks chaotic when you are ordering, but if you go upstairs once you have your food, you'll find lots of tables and, if you sit by a window, you can watch the masses in Liberty Square.

We also only do one TS a day - and usually have a day or two with no TS's.

Just keep in mind, when you take the bus from MK to AKL, it's about a 25 minute ride, so that's an hour of travel time right there.

We did CP for 'dinner' this past trip (last month) and none of us were impressed w/ the food and the character interaction was just okay.

Dd and I are trying Tony's for dinner in July.

I concur w/ the previous posters that having TS meals for both lunch and dinner is too much. Breakfast and lunch isn't too bad...but lunch and dinner are too close...and too much food!

We have done Tony's for lunch and for dinner. We definitely prefer the lunch over dinner (less hectic, less food and better service/food). If we do two table service meals in one day, we'll do a breakfast and a dinner...never a lunch and dinner. It will be a little easier now that no appetizers are included in the dining plan so it will be less food (unless we want an appetizer and pay OPP for it).

I would only plan two TS in one day if one was breakfast and the other dinner. Esp with one being a buffet.

I agree with the other posters - two TS meals in one day would be too much (and would certainly eat up too much time).

If you'll be at MK during the day, try Columbia Harbor House. Great food (I really like the tuna sandwich, and the fish and chips are good!) and a great place to get away from the heat. I had no idea how big the upstairs dining room was until we ate there for the KTTK tour in October.
