Rethinking this whole "camping" thing...

I'm all for running a fan too, I hear nothing outside my tt at nite when that's running. Wondering if that would help while tent camping too.. it just might.

Well, I won't be much of an encouragement. Not only is the noise level horrible for me, I also can't sleep well in a tent. I didn't even sleep well in a trailer the time we went with friends in theirs.

We are just not camping people I guess.

Please, please, please don't use a state campgroung as the barometer for a camping experience. They are not even close to private campgrounds as far as anything goes. Try a private campground and you will find a vastly different experience.

A lot of campgrounds have a quiet time and if you do not comply they will kick you out. We have a travel trailer and it gives us no problems. One time in Disney the Grads party at MK was loud and bothered us. We turned on the AC and it was great. Tent camping may be different though so I can not comment on that. We love camping but do carefully deside where to stay.

Well, problem solved. I got a truck camper, complete with a/c so the noise can drown out noisy neighbors. Let's hope this is better. Thanks for all the responses, guys.

UrsulasShadow - it sounds like you are all set, I just wanted to highly recommend a book for quiet camping in New England - it is titled "The Best in Tent Camping New England: A Guide for Car Campers Who Hate Rvs, Concrete Slabs, and Loud Portable Stereos" (which I promptly hide when my parents visit since they live in their RV! LOL!), written by Lafe Low.

We've found some great places because of this book. I think you'd find it suitable with your new truck camper as well. Many of the places we've been will fit small campers.

Thanks, KristinU! I'll order it straightaway! I've been all over the internet, looking for good campgrounds that seem quiet, and not into all the hoopla of what they call "family camping". Maybe that'll give me some ideas.

I've tented and camped in a TT and neither time was I bothered by noise of the other campers...however I did hear the Disney Buses! Glad you got your truck camper but I think a fan would have solved your problems...sure works
for me!

I kinda doubt a fan alone would have helped, even if I had had electricity (state parks have no hookups). But thanks for the response. I think it was a combination of the particular park and lack of any kind of security whatsoever, which allowed the campers to disrupt each other to their hearts' delight. I think in one case a fan, in combo with walls somewhat more substantial than nylon, may have alleviated some of the noise, but the non-stop car alarm was in another class altogether, and I doubt walls as thick as Fort Knox would have helped much.
