About the store closing/still shopping topic. I try to be very sensitive to employees being allowed to close up at the right time. But please don't play those announcements to herd customers to the checkouts then not have enough employees to actually check them out quickly! I get very annoyed if I rush to the register to only have to stand there in a long line. Figure I might as well wander a few minutes, then get in the end of the line. My time counts also. And yes, I have done my time in retail, then some
I understand how that can be frustrating, but honestly I just cannot imagine anyone who has ever done time in retail believing this.
You know most stores are working on a skeletal staff by closing time. You know the employees are busting bum to try to get the place cleaned up and the store recovery done. You know they have limited time to get everything done and very few people to do it.
Having done retail for 13 years I will never go into a place and shop unless I am positive I can be done and out of there at least 15 minutes before official closing time. It is absolutely ON ME to ensure that I am not holding anyone up. Usually I won't even enter a store near closing time unless I am just running in for one or two things.
Yes, your time counts, but if you decide to start checking out 10 minutes before closing time, then having only 1 or 2 cashiers is part of the game. That's how retail staffing works.
