OK its been ages since i did a resume, I need some help....

I was "let go" from my previous job because we did not see eye to eye. There was a child being molested by another child and NOTHING was done because "that stuff doesnt happen here". i went over there heads and was let go.

soooooo what do i write when they ask for the reason for leaving?

I don't think I'd go into all that with a prospective employer. I don't believe a former employer can say you were fired. I may be wrong.

I might just say something vague - you were looking for a change.

That is correct. A previous employer isn't really allowed to say anything negative about you. This has always made me wonder what value there really is in references anymore.

Do you have to put a reason for leaving on your resume? I usually leave stuff like that for an interview. You could always say something like: It was time to move on.

No, you wouldn't put reason for leaving on a resume.

Applications normally ask, though.

I would definitely not say anything about being fired or having a different view than management, your supervisor, etc. Do not mention it in any interviews either.

I would say your position was eliminated or as PP said, you were looking for a change.

Not sure where you live, but where I live, employers absolutely say negative things if someone lists us as a reference and we can't in good conscious give a positive one. I've told prospective employers who called me (given my name -- believe it or not -- by people I had fired!) that the person never showed up to work on time, or that the person lacked even rudimentary customer service skills, or that the person consistently called out sick without notice and ran out of paid-time-off, etc.

I think if you list them as an employer, you can simply not list your boss as a reference for the prospective employer to contact. List other employers and if pressed about that job, simply state that you and the company appeared to have dissimilar values and that you feel the place you're applying will be a better fit for you.

Tell them you had some ethical differneces with your previous employer. I did that once because it was the truth and I still got the next job.

That is not true - we are allowed to tell the TRUTH during references. We cannot give opinion - but we can state the facts. I can say someone was fired for theft, or they had a personality conflict, or they smelled.

A lot of companies went away from giving more than yes or no answers for fear of liability.

If you are filling out an application, just put "better opportunity" for the reason you left.

As for your resume, you don't need it there. You only need the company name, the dates you worked, the position title and what you did.
