I know I posted this a few weeks ago, but looking for more inexpensive options. We're going to HHI in 10 days. We're not much on fancy meals-Luby's every Friday, Food Courts and Counter Serve at WDW. Also like buffets. Suggestions? Also, we're ice cream fanatics (what's a vacation without lots of ice cream?) Any suggestions of good places to go for ice cream, bakeries?

The only buffets that I'm aware of on Hilton Head are at some of the higher end hotels, like the Westin and the Holiday Inn near Coligny Plaza.

There are a lot of casual restaurants. When you get to the resort, as for the restaurant guide that has all the menus in it. It's magazine-sized, but printed on newspaper stock. This will be the best way to find out which restaurants appeal to you and what their prices are.

As far as ice cream, we always go to Hilton Head Ice Cream at least once each trip. To get there, turn right out of the resort and go towards Sea Pines Circle. At the McDonalds just before Sea Pines Circle, turn left (Orleans St, I think??). There is a strip mall ahead of you -- turn right, then kind of bear left around the stores and restaurants. It's kind of on the back side.

There's also a new ice cream place just past Sea Pines Circle, but before you actually enter Sea Pines (by the movie theatres and Harris Teeter) called Marley's. Haven't tried it yet.

Have fun!!

Our favorite places to eat when we go to HHI are:

Sticky Fingers

Big Bamboo

Wild Wings Cafe

Kamy :)

Cracker Barrel
Fudruckers
Aunt Chiladas
Deli sandwiches from local food stores
Waffle House
Many Pizza places around

Enjoy

There is the Hilton Head Diner not far from the Disney property. Probably a bit to far for a walk (unless you like long walks) but it's in Shelter Cove right by the main street. We've been there for breakfast and it was good.

We had pizza delivered one night to the pool -- I think from Guiseppe's. We also walked in to ordered one the first night we were there and while it was cooking we went over to the grocery store (Piggly Wiggly) to get our groceries. It worked well for us.

Not inexpensive, but definately one we'll return to next summer, is the Salty Dog Cafe. They make a wonderful onion ring loaf type. It was excellent!

Giuseppe's (sp??) has great pizza as well as other Italian sandwiches and food. I think it's in the same shopping area as Fuddruckers, or close by.

As far as ice cream, we always go to Hilton Head Ice Cream

Here is another vote for HH Ice Cream. They make their own and it is wonderful! They only take cash though, no credit cards.

We also got ice cream at the place in Shelter Cove, but we like Hilton Head Ice Cream better. There are also some food court type places in the mall just before you get to the resort (Sbarro's, Chick-Fil-A, etc)

Hudson's Seafood House on the docks is alot of fun. It is on the north end of the island, close to the bridge. The have their own shrimp boats, etc. It's not cheap, but very good, casual seafood and great sunsets!

There are many ways to save money at HH but not necessarily to make it cheap to eat out. I can't think of any cheap buffets. I can agree with most of the restaurants listed. I'd add Dune's Pizza which is right across from the DVC entrance off 278, one of, if not the best pizza I ever had. I haven't personally been to Guisseppi's but have heard great things from many people. I'd also add Abe's Shrimp house to the list.

To me the way to save money at HH is not to try to find just cheap places but to take other approaches. If they still have it there's an auction on the local TV channel there on Fri and Sat nights where you can buy tickets for certain restaurants at pretty low prices. You can also do Lunch as the big meal out, share meals, use coupons and take advantage of the various discounts and early birds available.

I think you might have to take it off the list again. When we were there in January, there was a "for rent" sign in front of the property. We've never eaten there, so we didn't bother to investigate further, but I always thought that Abe's was kind of a mainstay around there...

Bummer!

When we left HHI in early February, we were told that the Spartina Grill was closing as well.

We really enjoyed the HH Brewing Co., Just Pasta & Casey's Sports bar & Grill. We also ate at Cracker Barrel, HH Diner and IHOP.
My girlfriend has a condo on HH and was nice enough to bring me back a restaurant guide before my first trip last year with all her favorites marked, some of them, that we will definately try next trip are:
Wild Wings Cafe, Big Bamboo, Skillets, Hinchey's Chicago Bar & Grill and Aunt Chilada's..these are all moderately priced.

Captain's Seafood (right next to Hilton Head Diner) has good seafood for moderate prices. Their oyster po'boy is to die for.

Jump and Phil's is a place that serves good sandwiches and great burgers for reasonable prices. It is near the HH Brewery (and much better, IMO). The burgers are very large (and good) and come with fries--they will easily feed two kids or, with a salad, two adults.

DVC-HH is my favorite. You'll LOVE the wonderful cast members!

Happy travels!

The Hilton Head Diner is a good bet. It's a real NY/Greek diner. (If you're from NY you know what I mean-Challah bread French Toast, Souvlaki, great burgers, omelets & breakfast anytime, dinner and luch specials, great portions.) And they have my favorite warm weather beverage-Sweet Tea! (The same owners have another diner - the Bluffton- off the island in Bluffton)
A friend of ours who lives in HH told us about Harold's Diner ("Eat here or we both starve"). It's a small place on the main road back past the Shelter Cove shopping center on the opposite side of the street. It's only open for Breakfast and lunch 7:00 AM -3:00 PM, Monday-Saturday. Great Burgers, sandwiches, etc. There is a counter to eat at or they have take out.
We also enjoyed the Oyster Factory-great sunsets! Check with the front desk they have a list of local restaurants, some that offer discounts form DVC members and guests.
My mouth is watering for those burgers right now!
