Looking for a campground somewhere in Savannah, or close to there on our way in to Orlando, need to let hubby take a short break from pulling camper, but need something to occupy a 16 yr old, 11, 13 yr old. , so i figured we could pull into a campground with pool, etc to give us all a break. Any suggestions. Thanks

There is a KOA campground in Savannah. Go onto koa.com and pull up the state. It will show you that there is one in Savannah.

I stopped there on the way down once a few years ago. We got in after the office was closed so can't tell you a lot about the pool and other amenities. They did have a nice close pull through all set up for us and it is fairly close to the exit making it an easy off/on for you. Enjoy

We stayed at this KOA last year on our way to the Fort. Easy to get in and out of. It was November and almost dark when we got here so don't know about the amenities. We only stopped to spend the night and hit the road early the next morning.

This topic has come up before about where to stop RV-wise in the Savannah area:

The consensus is the KOA there near I-95. Skidaway Island State Park, while nice for visiting Savannah, is not a convenient overnight stop along I-95.

I've stayed at Skidaway but not the KOA but then I spent a few days in Savannah (and enjoyed it).

Get a good night's sleep and then head on to the Fort.

If he can make it "a little further" down the road to Brunswick, Coastal GA RV Resort is a great place to stop....

We drive from the Raleigh area down to the Fort every year, and stopped here last Oct. Its a relatively new RV park, with all paved sites that are mostly pull-thrus, a nice pool, and just off of I-95.

This is our new "stop off" spot.

Hey just checked out site, it is Awesome, all we want is for about 3 hours, give hubby chance to rest, kids a place to wonder while he is taking a short nap, i wander if we need to reserve a spot, or if it would be easy to just pop in, i know camping spots are hard to get at most places, did you reserve? What route do you take from Raleigh ?

If you do go to Brunswick, make sure you have some dinner at The Georgia Pig. It's right off of 95...exit 29. Awesome BBQ. It looks like a hole in the wall but it's great!! Have a great trip.

Hello to all,

We will be FIRST time Fort guests around this Halloween !!! Coming from a little further up north, and we too are looking for a quick overnight spot, probably somewhere around Florence, SC or thereabouts? Preferably right off an I-95 exit....

any suggestions???

Nana, We have been camping at the Fort for about 10 yrs now... We have camped in there in a TT, a 5th wheel, and now we have a motorhome. Since we live in the Raleigh area, we take I-40E to I-95S all the way down to I-4 in Daytona. From there we follow I-4 all the way to the Disney exits and then into the Fort.

Years ago, we used to leave home about 4am and travel all the way. We would usually get to the Fort around 3 to 4:00 the same afternoon. But we found when we did it this way I was worn out from all of the driving.

Now we usually leave home around noonish, take our time and stop off for the night around Brunswick. Get up the next morning and within about 3 1/2 to 4 hours we were sitting in the checkin lanes at the Fort. This made for a much better start to the vacation.

As far as pulling that far, don't even worry about it... The road down is fairly good shape. Not sure where you're coming from, but if you travel to Myrtle Beach going down I-95, you probably already know that the stretch from South of the Border to the MB exits will jar out your teeth, especially pulling a trailer.... It will be smooth sailing once you get to Florence.

Once you get to Jacksonville, you will probably want to take the I-295 by-pass around the city. There are alot of lane changes and merging if you go straight through on I-95. The bypass adds about another 20 to 30 minutes to the trip... To me and my co-pilot (DW), its just more relaxing to go around....

Just go and have the time of your life!!

Nana, you might just want to call the folks there and tell them what you want to do... When we went, we spent the night. Maybe you can work out something with them just to pay a partial just for parking there a few hours and letting the kids use the pool...

Give 9A a try, it's a pretty drive too, great view of the harbor!

That's the route we always take also, it seems alot shorter than 295.

9a is the best way around Jax. Take it from somebody that lives there. Just be careful at the on ramp. It is still under construction and the curves are pretty sharp. As soon as you pass the airport exit get over to the right and stay there. Next exits will be for 9A and 295. if you get the wrong one no, worries they both will get you back to 95 with little trouble.
