Restrictions for DVC renters?

Hi there! I'm looking into renting DVC points for my honeymoon and I'm weighing up all the pros and cons.

Aside from the no cancellation and payment up front for renting, are there any disadvantages or restrictions to renting DVC points as opposed to booking a BC room through Disney?

We want to have the DxDP, (which I can't find information about to book separately or get costs, any info or a link would be much appreciated)

As its our honeymoon, we'd have put that on our ressie as a special occasion, but is that possible with DVC renting? Like, do they think that we are the actual owners of the DVC?
I'm not sure if this is a stupid newbie question or not... Just trying to get all the facts before acting on anything!

Thanks in advance

The biggest difference is that daily housekeeping is not included in a DVC rental. I also believe that your KTTW card will not say "member" on it so you will not be eligible for special perks like pool hopping. The member you rent from will be able to add your honeymoon as a celebration. They will also be able to sign you up for the DxDDP at the lowest rate. DVC DDPs are not seasonally adjusted in price. You will, however, have to pay in full when you add the DDP to your reservation.

Thank you! This answered my question about dining plans while renting DVC points as well!

As a renter of a villa you would not get daily mouse keeping unless you pay extra.

Also as a renter it is less likely to get a "free upgrade"

And, as a renter you would have trek around with a thicker wallet. ;)

I think DVC members still only pay the $99.97 for 2013 stays (DVC dis not get the mid-year price increase) and 104.97 for 2014 stays, but those can be subject to change.

I knew about the mouse keeping, but that's ok by me I think. I don't think hotel rooms get THAT messy/dirty to warrant daily cleaning anyway, the only thing I'll miss is the towels, but I'll just purchase a second towel package for the nominal amount.

Free upgrades... Meh. I wouldn't go in thinking we'd get that, so that's ok. Of course everyone would appreciate a bit of pixidust but yeah... That's ok, I'll take the lack of upgrade for the much cheaper cost!!

I'm not sure I know what your last paragraph is about? Is that the daily charge for DxDP?

WHAT'S THIS????:confused3

Just want to make sure you realize the villas are in the building in the front. I have not stayed in the villas but I know someone who did and said it was not nearly as nice as staying at the Beach Club. Maybe someone who has stayed at both can comment on that???

We rented a DVC room for our trip this Nov this is the first time I have rented and since we did not go on the trip yet I can not tell you if we loved it or not BUT I will tell you it was MUCH cheaper then going through Disney !! Also we knew about the dining plan and no house keeping well in adcance . I will not advertise the place/person we rented from but we are staying in AKL . I have stayed here before but not in a DVC room and am looking forward to returning to the AKL . I loved the Beach Club but again we stayed in a regular room there as well ! If you are intrested in hearing the deal we got PM me and I can give you some information on what we paid .

The thing to know is the linens in a villa won't be as luxurious as in a resort room and the villa will have a much more shabby-chic feel. And PP are right, the villas are in a separate building, so while it's not far from the main BC building, you won't have a room that's quite as convenient to SAB. Just details to be aware of for your honeymoon. Congrats by the way, our Disneymoon is coming up in October!

Thanks for that info!!
It seems like a fairly convenient resort (compared to CSR or AKL/V) so I assume it isn't TOO far from everything. Besides, being away might not be a bad thing for a honeymoon ;-)
Thanks! And a big congrats to you too!! My sister is tying the knot on October 26! Almost at the 3 month mark!
My wedding is actually in January (Australia day long weekend here in The land down under!) so still 6 months away (as of tomorrow 24th!!)

Actually, your KTTW does say "DVC Member." We've rented points twice (third time coming up in October!) and our KTTW have always said DVC member. Or DVC. Something like that.

Now be aware of another downside for BCV: You better be calling someone now, not tomorrow, not the next day, but immediately if you want a DVC reservation at BCV in Jan. Owners of a DVC resort can reserve 11 months out at their home resort and 7 at others. Once that 7 month window opens anything left at a near park resort, like BCV, can have a tendency to disappear fairly quickly almost any time of year. You may find something for last week of Jan right now but it could be gone by tomorrow.

The online registration system now has a check-box to indicate if the guest is a member or not. I assume that they could change the KTTW if they chose to for your October trip.

Views, very different at the Villas versus the resort. The villas were built in the front parking lot of the resort.

Room decor, again very different.

Special occasions will not get as much recognition from DVC bookings as they do with cash guests. Sorry but true. That is not to say that all resort guests will get something special for a honeymoon but your chances are much greater as a cash guest. DVC just does not have the budget for it.

Unless you are getting a one bedroom villa, I personally would much prefer a BC room over a BCV studio. Here are photos of each.

Not any more. Now it just says DVC reservation. Maybe.
