Off to dlp soon and looking at where to eat. we are taking our 5 year old dd and 1 year old ds. Where would people recommend eating for this age group?
We were also thinking of doing afternoon tea but by other reports it seems the venue has changed and may not be as good. Would people recommend breakfast with the characters? Is it money well spent.
Gosh can't believe there is so much to think about!!! But I am getting so excited!!

Hiya!

Our kids were similar ages last year. We found Annettes and Cafe Mickey were great.

As we don't eat that much at breakfast we don't think it is good value. Much prefering lunch or more likely supper in the evening, when everyone is ready for a good feed :)

What sort of thing would you be interested in?? Character meals? Gourmet food? There's a really large choice! I would recommend Cafe Mickey definately.... Its a character dinner that serves lots of food that kids and adults can enjoy, and theres loads of characters too! Why not look in the restaurant FAQ at the top of the board- Its full of reviews and I treat it like my bible when I plan a trip!

Thanks for that, had a quick look but there is soooo much info! I was looking just for that something that my 5 year old would enjoy. Seems Cafe Mickey may be the way forward, would you advise that I book it or wait until I get there?

Hi, could I just ask a quick ques related to the above? We are going at the end of Nov and not sure yet what restaurants we want to eat in - should we be ok just showing up on a weeknight in Nov, or would we still need to book in adv?

Thanks alot :thumbsup2

Book in advance for cafe mickey definitely!

If you now definitely where you want to eat I'd say ts always smart to pre book.

For my january trip I'll phone and book my first meal in advance (Walts on our first day) then will pop into city hall for the others - we're going at the quiestest time of year though.

Personally I don't see much point in character breakfasts because you're paying for a breakfast with your hotel anyway. If your child likes pizza or burgers & chips then there will always be something for them to eat. As for healthier food, well, I'm about to find out! We found it a nightmare when we went 2 years ago as all we could find was pizza/burger type food (didn't eat in the expensive places like Walt's). But having looked at the restaurant reviews for our trip next week it seems like there's a lot more available, so either it's got better in the last few years or we just didn't look in enough places! I am going with exactly the same age kids (the 1 year old will eat anything, the 5 year old is more fussy) and I'm thinking that the buffets look the best bet, as there's bound to be something for them there.

In the parcs burger and chips are really the only options at most places for lunch unless you go to the proper restaurants in my opinion.

I found a nice sandwich place that did Toasted cheese and ham sanwiches for 5 euros, much better than anywhere else and more filling too.

It was on the right hand side down main street as you made your way to the palace and it had a seating area outside by it too. There was a sitting area hidden away at the back through an archway as well for those busy times. I'd recommend trying lunch there once if you can, it was lovely.

The DLP Food Guide (not sure how up to date it is) lists loads of places selling sandwiches, salads, pasta etc.

We had lunch in the Lucky Nugget Saloon on our last trip and it was fabulous! I'm certain a 5 year old would enjoy it. Great atmosphere with a live band playing too. It's a buffet with plenty of options. Lots of character interaction too - great fun - except for Captain Hook who my 4 year old blanked cause "he's bold". :lmao:

We're doing Cafe Mickey this time - can't wait.

Oh I loved Toad Hall too - a counter service place in Fantasyland. Lovely fish and chips and really cool Wind in the Willows decor.

Oh and another vote for Annettes - great fun! And the desserts...... :cloud9:

The nice place is Victoria's Home-Style Restaurant - the cheese and ham toasties and the cheese and mushroom ones are to die for.:goodvibes Having one of these each trip has become a must-do!

I would recommend cafe mickey, annettes diner and the lucky nugget saloon:)all my kids really enjoyed going there:yay:

Hi, I have a 5, 4 and 2 year old and definitely recommend buffet restaurants. My children like their food quick so its really hassle free for us just filling their plates when they want! (Lucky Nugget, DLH Inventions and have great characters too) Been to annettes diner that was a good one:thumbsup2 (table service) Rainforest cafe, good for the decor, food OK.

Have yet been to Cafe Mickey for dinner, but the character breakfast was fab (we stay off site, so we have good fill on brekkie there and keeps us going till dinner!)

We went to Cafe Mickey last week. The character interaction was fantastic - really great and worth the whole thing. Sadly, I felt the food wasn't great and the service was even worse  But I'd still eat there again just for the character interaction for the kids :)

I would book it was quiet when we first got there but certainly got lively and that was a Thursday lunch off peak! You can always change it nearer the time or even cancel at no charge.

Have a look at http://www.dlpfoodguide.com/index.php as well as the restaurant guide here.

That site lists every restaurant and menu, sometimes it can be a little out of date but it'll give you a really good idea of the different food types, restaurant types and prices. I've done 5 trips with a total of 21 days and never had a burger, not that I have anything against burgers and I could eat the 5 euro foot long hotdogs everyday ;) but there are the cheaper self service restaurants offering Pasta, Pizza, Tex Mex, Croque Monsieurs, just my opinion but there's plenty of choice if you know where to look.

I do agree with Cyrano, we have done Character Breakfasts on several occasions and I always come out thinking I should've saved the money, food eaten in neglible and everyone just can't wait to get into the park.

Enjoy your trip / food planning. :)
