restaurants you won't try

Well, chili peppers make me ill, so most Mexican places are right out! Otherwise I will never set foot in any eatery that has character dining because I happen to be (shh, it's my little Disney secret) mortally afraid of the characters. Had a bad experience when I was a little kid.

Where else wouldn't I go? Well, I must admit, the 'interactive' portion of the 50's Prime Time Cafe makes me veer in the opposite direction. My sense of humor isn't like that, and I wouldn't find it fun.

Other than that . . .

well, I'm game for anything once!

"Teppan Edo. We have those around here. Plus, (I know this sounds terrible) I wouldn't want to get stuck sitting with a family whose party included a screaming baby or annoying kid. It's one thing when that happens near you, another when it happens at your table!"

I've been to Benny Hannah and a local knock off of that style I still am looking forward to Teppan Edo...what worries me about your statement is I am traveling with my DD10 :littleangel: who is autistic. She is very good but can be hyper at times and I would hate to annoy anyone at my table.... but on the other hand this is MY vacation too and I shouldn't have to be limited in what I do or where I eat because someone might get annoyed so I think I will keep this ressie.

"50's PTC. Theme doesn't appeal to me at all."

I liked the fun of PTC but it gets old fast and food not so great.

I would not go back to Sci Fi (great fun but just a burger joint) or The Plaza because it was boring and food was just so-so.

The only ones I probably wouldn't even consider are:

Tokyo Dining
Teppan Edo
San Angel Inn
Trails End
Shutters

The only ones that we have eaten at that I wouldn't go back to are:

Hollywood and Vine
Tony's Town Square

Rose & Crown: When we think good food, we just don't think England.

How rude! :rotfl: I agree though, I'm not really into a lot of British food, especially because I'm a vegetarian and a lot of it is meat-based.

I don't think there are any restaurants in WDW that I wouldn't try- one person's worst restaurant is another person's favourite, so I believe in trying everything out for myself and forming my own opinion. I have very varied tastes when it comes to food and as long as there is no meat (or celery ) involved, I'll try it!

While there are several restaurants at WDW that do not rate high on my list, here are a few that we will probably never venture into:

1. Any buffet...we are not buffet people and have no interest in character meals.

2. Jiko.....We did not care for the food, theseating for 2 is very cramped, and our waiter was down right rude!

3. V&A....I think we would like the food.....Neither DH or I have any interest in packing that dressy of clothes for our Florida vacation.

4. 50's PT......the food or atmosphere do anything for us.

5. RFC....We went there several years ago, for breakfast, were we waited 15 min. to be seated about 8 in. away from another table, though the restaurant was basically empty. We waited 20-25 min. for a server to show up (which never happened) so we walked out. All the servers were in the corner chit-chatting. The host at the podium did not even care that we were leaving.

Japan because I ate there many years ago and didn't think it was anything great. If I want good Japanese teppanyaki, then I just eat at Kobe Steakhouse (when I lived in Orlando, that was my favorite restaurant. Their food is amazing!).

Nine Dragons because I've heard it's one of the worst restaurants in all of Disney.

I'd try any of 'em, for me, vacation time is time to try something different.

I hear a lot of "not interested in trying"s for Marrakesh... I didn't think I'd be interested, either, hubby wanted to try it. When I started making reservations for our trip in October, Marrakesh was the FIRST one I reserved! We loved it. The food wasn't too spicy, the inside of the place is just beautiful. The service we got was excellent. (And don't worry about the belly dancer around the kids, really, she's dancing, that's all.. she got a couple adorable little girls up to dance with her, it was cute as anything.)

My list of "tried it, don't need to go back:"

Crystal Palace. I'd heard this was a "you've GOT to eat here," so we went. Yeah, was cute to see the characters (Pooh, Eeyore, Tigger) and watch the kids run screaming at them to fling themselves at them, but the food was pretty meh.

Really, that's it...

We will not return to H&V. YUCK!
Hve no desire to try:
Bingarten
Rose and Crown
Tokyo Dining
Liberty Tree

Places on someone else's list I have found to be great
Plaza- We loved this for a lunch ADR. The food was really good, and we got sundaes for dessert that were fab!!
1900- We loved the food and DD got to see Cindy!!

The only 2 for me (or should I say NOT for me!) are....

Hollywood and Vine
Tony's

Just because I have heard ONLY bad or so so reviews.

The one's that surprise me on here are....
Nine Dragons (loved it!!! It was FABULOUS...and I am from a big city where we can get great Chinese!)

Biergarten...loved that too!! It is great food and a fun time!!

V&A - I was interested at first for our anniversary, but after reading the menu and reading reviews on here, I can't justify spending that much money for what you get. It may be "high quality" food, but you only get 1-2 bites of each course. I know that people leave very full, but I would much rather spend alot of money for one really amazing entree than alot of money for little bites of a bunch of things.

Teppan - I love hibachi's for the rice. It may not be authentic, but its my favorite part and since Teppan does noodles, I'll pass.

All buffets (until we have kids, so we can go for the characters) I can't justify the almost $40 pp cost they charge. Even the best sushi buffet in Atlanta only costs $30 pp.

We are trying to go to every CS and TS
but not V&A, i dont like cheese and dont eat anything raw
so not worth the cost

Rose and Crown- Nothing appeals to me on the menu

Crystal Palace- Not a fan of Winnie the Pooh

We'll probably never try Nine Dragons in China.

Just can't justify those prices (or a dining credit!) for chinese food - we can get pretty great Chinese at home very inexpensively.

Another we'll probably never try is Hollywood & Vine since the reviews are terrible and we don't usually do character dining anyhow.

How rude! :rotfl: I agree though, I'm not really into a lot of British food, especially because I'm a vegetarian and a lot of it is meat-based.
I love British food! No, it's not very spicy or exciting, but to me, it's yummy comfort food. We like the Rose and Crown.

The only restaurant I wouldn't try would be V&A's. I love good food, and some menu items sound great to me, but I'm not that into food and most of my fine dining experiences have been on someone else's expense account :rotfl2:. So, while I would probably enjoy it, I just can't see spending that kind of money, and taking that kind of time away from my favorite thing to do at Disney -- the parks!

Other than that, I'll try anything once, though there isn't much at WDW that we don't have at home. Sometimes it might be a counter-service cheeseburger or Chinese food that I can get better at home, but if it's convenient and will satisfy my hunger, that's fine with me.

That said, I would really like to try Boma and/or Jiko, because I don't know of any African-style restaurants in my area. Hmm, I may have to find one though. Again, I'm probably not going to take the time to travel to and from AKL just to eat, I'd rather be in the parks, so we'll probably never eat there unless we decide to stay at AKL.

Teppan Edo - I know of/been to a handful of different teppanyaki restaurants all over this state and they're all pretty much the same--I don't even go to them for the shows anymore.

Nine Dragons - Menu looks like it's just Americanized Chinese food, no need to go there when the same stuff is everywhere else.

Rainforest Cafe - There's at least 3 in this area that I know of. Been there, done that. If I'm eating at Disney, I want to eat at places exclusive to the World.

No need for any character meals, mainly because: I know they'll be packed anyway, I don't really care for any of the characters at these, and I really just want to eat in peace. The only reason we're doing H&V this time is that it was the only available option for the F! package.

Here's my list of places I won't try.

Whispering Canyon: My 11 year old (she's autistic) gets very upset when attention is called to her. I think she'd have a total crying fit over the antics.

Sci-Fi Diner: I worry that my 11 year old would get upset with some images from the movies. I know that they're kid friendly, but you'd be surprised at what will upset her. Without knowing what exactly they show, I figure we're better safe than sorry. It's one thing to get upset with a brief image from a ride that's over with quickly or a show that we can easily leave, but I really don't want to have to worry about needing to leave a restaurant in the middle of a meal.

Anywhere that's not owned by Disney. I do have a reason, honest. Non-Disney owned restaurants just aren't as good about handling food allergies as the ones owned by Disney. We vacation at WDW because we know we can have a safe and stress free vacation with plenty of food options. Going somewhere where this isn't true makes absolutely no sense.

Plaza Restaurant and Liberty Tree Tavern: with our particular food allergies, these places just don't have the options that would be found at other places.

Beaches and Cream: My kids can't eat dairy; why bother?

Anywhere not on the DDP.

Victoria & Alberts: Way too expensive for my comfort.

Most of the 2 TS restaurants: I just don't want to spend that much on a meal. The only exceptions are the dinner shows and CRT.

Are you noticing a theme? I'm cheap. :rotfl2:

Three 'never agains':

Mama Melrose

Hollywood and Vine

50's Prime Time Cafe

I'm cracking myself up as I just realized all of our really BAD dining experiences have been in DHS! :lmao:

I'm with you. A couple of our worst experiences have been H&V and 50's PTC. I am planning to try Mama Melrose this next trip just to see if I can find a 1 TS place at DHS. I can't see paying 2 TS for Brown Derby.

Man I agree with EVERYTHING you said! My DD10 is autistic too and I TOTALLY get it!!! We planned a lot of buffet meals so we can eat and go if she gets upset. I know so many people say terrible things about H&V but my DD LOVES Tigger and Pooh so she may love it there (food may suck but I guess we'll deal since there are NO other availabilities the day we will be at HS and we have the free meal plan...might as well use it)

H&V I believe has Playhouse Disney characters, not Tigger and Pooh. For Tigger and Pooh at meals, you'd want Crystal Palace on a day you're going to Magic Kingdom.

On your Hollywood Studios day, maybe try for an early lunch (I'm assuming you're wanting lunch since you said you wanted the character meal and the characters at H&V are only there for breakfast and lunch) at Cape May at the Beach Club (ask for a late breakfast seating to get the characters) since you said everywhere in DHS is already booked up that day. They have Chip & Dale there and vary Mickey, Minney and Goofy. The characters each time have all taken that extra couple of minutes with our kids to kid around and interact. It's been a great place for my ASD daughter because it's never as busy or rushed as other character meals we've been to and it seems so much better overall sensory-wise. You can also enjoy a nice mid day boat ride going to and from the meal.

H&V really was a nightmare for her. They were running REALLY late with our reservation and we waited for I think it was almost an hour to be seated last year. It was very noisy and felt kind of echo-y. We went for dinner so no characters but I would assume it's this way other times of day as well. The food was ok, kind of like any average inexpensive family buffet around the country. I wouldn't say it was terrible like some of the review I've read but I wouldn't it great. The atmosphere was a nightmare for us, especially after that wait. If we hadn't have waited like that, she might have been able to tollerate things a bit better, but it's certainly not a place for sensory cool-down.
