Restaurants to avoid?

Rosie's hamburger joint in MGM - totally gross - and I'm talking about all of our meals!

Let's see...

I cannot think of anything that I would say I absolutely would not eat at again, but

50's Prime Time... food was mediocre, nothing to write home about. The atmosphere which everyone raves about well, we didnt see much of it!

There are other restaurants we have tried and one time it was great one time it was not! Probly depends on day/time/crowds and who is making the food! haha!

Unfortunately at a lot of the places, we get our expectations so high from hearing others great reports, and after forking out the amount of money that some of these cost, you are disapointed. Expecting a little more for that kind of money!
As for the service in restaurants, if and when we get a crummy waiter/waitress, we try to take note of other servers around us and see if it is a general attitude or just our server.
We usually give every restaurant at least one chance, and if it was bad, in the future we give them another chance but if 2 times it was bad, never again!

We try to avoid eating at all while we're in Disney.
We'll use our towncar stop to buy dozens of canned chef boyardee stuff and microwave popcorn.

Ok, fair enough. I won't dare eat a sub or a cheesesteak when on vacation. Not like home.

Ok, so knowing that I don't get much genuine mexican food way up here, is it likely better than the local fare I have now?

Probably is better than what you get. But I know people from up north who hated it too. As you can see I'm from Texas as well. In other words I'm really picky when it comes to Mexican food because we have the best down here. And the place at Epcot just didn't cut it for me.

I also don't recommend the sushi place at Epcot. If you want good sushi, go to Kimonos at The Swan.

Whenever there are threads like this you will get mixed reviews on the same place. Just like resorts, Some Love a certain resort. Others Hate that same one. And it is good we all don't like exactly the same. And to prove this point, the bad service at Rose & Crown is the main reason we do not plan to return. (And The Cheesecake Factory at the Mellian Mall has better food!)

I now avoid like the plague the POR (Riverside) food court, esp where ribs are served. And I would probably only eat at Riverside food court now as a last resort if no other offer was feasible at that time.
Bad experiences at Mama Melrose's and CA Grille years ago left bad enough impressions we have never returned, and may not. Not horrible. But bad enough not to care to waste money or time again at either.
Tusker House I avoid too. Not horrible food. Just hardly enough to be considered mediocore.
In January at Plaza (MK) I ordered a (too over priced) hamburger and had a bite of gristle and bone. Needless to say IF I eat there again, hamburger is off my list.

A lot of what you will decide will be from your own personal experiences.

Chef Mickey's, Pinnochio's Village Haus, the ABC Commisary and Backlot Express, and San Angel Inn are the only places I will NEVER EVER EVER eat at again, if it was FREE or they PAID me I wouldn't eat there again

Like they say, different strokes for different folks. We adore Chef Mickey's! Thought Pinnochio's and the ABC Commissary's offerings were above the run-of-the-mill hamburger. Guess that's why the folks at WDW offer so many options.

That said, We'll never, ever, eat at the Yaughtsman again, although the food was excellent, the CM's were snobby and condescending (duck, here come the flames!) The evening was a real turn-off, such a disappointment. If you feel the need for a good steak, LeCellier was classy, welcoming and delicious.

::MickeyMo Am I the only one who has never had a bad dining experience? We have enjoyed every single place we ever tried. Is this odd? ::MinnieMo

Capt Jack's it was dirty & the food was awful my shrimp was slimey.

Kae

San Angel Inn, the most bland and mediocre Mexican food I've ever had.

The only restaurant I would absolutely refuse to go to is ABC Commisary at MGM. The food was not edible. I believe we got some type of chicken, I don't remember.

There are other restaurants I don't really care for, but none that I would not go back to.

Well, if you read this entire thread, or any like it, apparently, you're 'weird'! :teeth:

But seriously, I'd have to agree with you!! :)

::MickeyMo LoL. Maybe I'm not weird... maybe I'm lucky! ::MinnieMo

having eaten at nearly every restaurant in wdw, the only one i will never again eat in is coral reef

Hi! In May/June '04, we ate counter service in Mexico..I forget the name of it but it was all outside seating. Maybe it was the heat/crowds but NONE of us liked the food there and won't be going back. Plus, the birds (?) or whatever they were basically attacking us to get our food. :earseek: First it was cute but after awhile got irritating!

OMG..I think I'm gonna like posting, it's fun!! :)

Have fun posting!

Myself, I haven't had any really bad dining experiences. Some were lackluster, but they were counter service and I don't expect Le Bec Fin from Pizzafari.

It's not exactly a restaurant, but DH and I won't be back to the French patisserie in Epcot. We've given it three chances because it's had so many positive reviews, but we just don't care for it. We both felt the pastries looked great but tasted less than fresh.

I know we're in the tiny minority on this one. :confused3

Places that will never, never see me again

Hollywood and Vine, worst buffet I've ever eaten
Liberty Inn-Epcot Fast food Yucky! Dry! Gross food
Captain Cooks-Poly's Grossest fast food restaurant

Restaurants I really like

Spoodles-Boardwalk
Portobello-Downtown
Columbia Harbor House-MK

Have eaten in most of the Magic Kingdom Restaurants no complaints
Maybe 1/3 of Epcots Some OK, some good
Disney Studios is my least favorite place will not eat at any of the fast food restaurants. Yucky!
Animal Kingdon is OK

Lots of restaurants I have not tried because of the reviews on these boards. Some of the restaurants that people hate I enjoy. Others like Germany in Epcot that people rave about, I did not care for. Not bad food, but food I did not like. Yet I like Mexico which does not get good reviews.

I agree with the few previous posts on Coral Reef. Very overpriced, and only average at best. Had a hard time finding dishes my DW and I would enjoy.

Loved Mama Melrose, though, and already have PS for trip this June. Also loved Sci-Fi (more for atmosphere than outstanding food) and plan to go back, too.

Have a PS for Rose and Crown, and am a little concerned by some of the posts. Plan to keep it, though. Can't imagine the steak could be bad.

I can answer that question. NO! We are also from Texas by the way. The food at the Mexican pavillion was the only bad food we had our entire trip this past January. My son and I didn't even eat it. My GD was really hungry and tried, but finally said 'this isn't Mexican food, can we go somewhere else?' We left our food almost untouched and wound up going to the American Pavilion for a hamburger, even though we really wanted Mexican food. The atmosphere was OK, but the food wasn't edible.

:confused3 :guilty:

That said, there are a few other places I don't eat at, as follows:

Coral Reef I think it's terribly expensive for mediocre (but not bad) food

Palio, had two REALLY bad experiences there with service, not right to spend $150 on a meal and get horrendous service. If it was free, I'd go back.

Sci-Fi Drive In--Some love it, we thought the food was "OK", the service was "meh" and the atmosphere was uncomfortably cramped.

Big River Brewery, so-so service and so-so food, too many good places to eat to waste my time eating there.

Portabello yacht Club--had SUCH bad service and medicore food we haven't gone back. Keep meaning to, I think we caught them on a bad night.

Garden Grill, ok service, ok food, but again, so many great places to eat, why waste the time?

Boma--I have food allergies, and this is the ONLY place at WDW that they didn't try to accomodate me, and I couldn't eat 95% of the food there. AFTEr my son and husband finished eating, right down to dessert, the server offered to bring me a chicken breast from the kitchen when he realized I hadn't eaten anything. Had he been attentive, he would have noticed this issue half an hour earlier. The chef also did nothing but walk me through teh buffet and tell me I couldn't eat almost everything on it--again, no offer to try to accomodate me. I would have been happy to pay for a dinner from Jiko to be brought over, there are several great items on their menu I can eat. Boma at breakfast was a different animal and I strongly suggest it!

Alfredo's--overpriced so-so food, and generally indifferent service give me no reason to want to run back there.

Anne
we had dinner and breakfast last JUNE , had a great time :bounce: :bounce: !!!!!!!!!! :flower: TAKE CARE AND GOD BLESS
