Restaurants Requesting No Cell Phones

Quite a while back, I recall that Jiko had a notice requesting that cell phones not be used in the diningroom. I think it was actually printed on the menu. After spending a recent meal listening to the woman across from us yammer on a cell phone about a friend whose medication was making him puke his guts out and pee like a racehorse (her exact words, repeated many times), I looked on the way out and there is no more notice.

Are there any other WDW restaurants that still request no cell phone use, or is it just a free-for-all now? The imagine of the projectile puking and copious piss went so well with our dessert that I would hate to be deprived of a similar experience at other restaurants.

I swear I thought I saw a sign at Jiko in June but maybe I'm thinking of our trip there back in December.

I don't know about the restaurants in Disney but most of the restaurants here in Atlanta now have signs up saying to silence your cell phone and please no cell use in the dining rooms. I've actually seen a manager in one restaurant ask someone to please go to the bar or outside to use their cell phone. Personally, I'm glad b/c there's nothing worse then someone yelling into their cell phone while you're trying to enjoy a good dinner.

I would be so glad if cell phone use was not allowed in the dining room. I think it takes away from the experience, and rude to the servers.

Don't Know...But you have better patience then I do.I can and have asked fellow diners in restaurants on the phone, to get off their phone or go outside to talk.It seems like rudeness is becoming acceptable more and more lately.

After about five minutes, I would have been telling her to take it outside, turn off the phone or I would turn it off for her.

I recently went to Starbucks and was behind someone who was on their phone. When she went over to wait for her drink and it wasn't right she had a hissy fit. I nicely told her that had she not been talking on the phone talking about what her boyfriend did to her last night, that the order may have been heard properly and she wouldn't have the problem she is now having.

People are just more rude these days in general.

If there is a sign or not I still would have asked the waitstaff to ask the patron to take it outside. I would be very honest that the subject matter of the phone call was ruining your appetite. I am in the minority..I don't mind the quick call answered that says "Yep I have the kids with me and we are fine" or a call from the sitter to find out where the pajamas are but it should be a quick, quiet and under a minute.

Between the tattered jean incident breaking the signature dining rules, and now Inconsiderate TMI Cell Phone Hag at Jiko, I don't know if I'd want to have dinner at WDW with you.

Actually, I might want to because it would probably provide some interesting entertainment!

The Disney Dining Jinx...LOL! But you have to remember, we eat at WDW once or twice a week so most of our meals our low-key affairs with no hijinks worth posting about. Cell Phone Lady is the first good one we've had since Torn Blue Jeans Guy, and he was kind of boring because he was leaving just as we arrived. We're fun to eat with even when wild activities are going on...DH and I were having a blast mocking Cell Phone Lady's conversation. If it had been at the start of our meal, I would have said something to her or the server so I wouldn't have to listen to bodliy function descriptions for an hour. But we were on dessert, so it was more fun to just s****** about it and to see if she could top herself (the puke and racehorse pee are only two of the highlights). I view it as a 50s Prime Time kind of experience in the Singature Resturants (Cell Phone Lady could be Crazy Aunt Lulu).

Heck I hate to hear about peoples crap at the grocery store or any place really. I have my phone on Vibrate even when the kids are with a sitter, so would look at my phone-most times I call back later if it is the kids or sitter I anwser & right away say hold on please & go outside. Yup even when its cold out.

The whole cell phone thing just cracks me up. Think back just a few years ago. You went out for dinner. If someone called to tell you about their medications making the puke and pee, they would either get no answer or have to leave a message on the answering machine. And they would survive not talking to you until you got home! Novel concept, ain't it?

Unfortunately, we've gotten to the point where cell phones are the norm and when one rings, we immediately feel the need to answer it right then and there and complete the conversation. No one uses voice mail if they hear the phone ring.

And don't get me started on ring tones! My son has his phone programmed to play the theme from Walker, Texas Ranger whenever my husband calls him. Try standing next to him and hearing "when the eyes of a stranger are upon you" sung by Chuck Norris. Now, that will make you lose your appetite!

There was an episode on the Food Network a yr or so ago on a couple of cheesesteak places in Philly. They won't even take your order if you're on the cell phone. The order takers will ignore you and just go to the next guest and the guests behind you in line will dare you to say something. It was a riot and something I can totally see happening in my home town.

OT - This same place had a line just for cheesesteaks. If you wanted any other items you had to get in the other line (where you could also get a cheese steak). In variably some "tourist" would get in the cheesesteak line and try to order fries...you just had to see the reaction of the server. The tourist either got in the other line to get fries or passed on them.

How did these people ever function without a phone attached to their ears, I think it's pretty pathetic honestly. I have a person rule that if I'm ever out with someone, I don't talk or text because it's just plain rude to the person I'm with... I wish everyone felt that way.

You couldn't possibly be waiting until the last minute to confirm/cancel your meal plans??? That SO sounds like me...Sitting at the restaurant I REALLY wanted to get into, calling the one I have my ressie at in 20 minutes with the "We just decided to stay in tonight" excuse!!!

Well, I HAVE been known to make a backup ressie in case my preferred restaurant, for which ADRs were not available, can't take me as a walkup. I do the cancellation while waiting to be seated tho', not at the table. A simple convo of "Please cancel this" would be so dull compared to a bodily function discussion that I'd be afraid of boring the people around me.

I recall a cell phone use thread once - the gist of the thread was why do people answer the phone when it rings in restaurants and shows instead of letting it go to voicemail - and one adamant cell phone answerer stated that if they didn't answer the phone, if something awful were to happen later (not clear if they meant something awful happening to them or to the person who was calling) they might have given up their last chance to talk to the person who is calling them.

First and last time I've seen that one. I don't answer the phone in the restaurant. It's usually on vibrate and it's in my bag and not on my person so I don't even know that it's vibrating.
