We are staying at the Animal Kingdom lodge in August and just want to know of any nice restaurants outside of the resort as it can be expensive in the Resort hotels.

Any advice appreciated.:thumbsup2

There are nice alternatives at DTD; Paradiso 39 and Raglan Road both have great apps that are like regular meals.

WPE and EOS are also quite affordable with nice portions.

The food courts at POR and Pop have the best food courts, and AoA has now been reported as being very good.

As far as "nice" restaurants outside the resorts, you are going to find the good ones at the parks just as expensive. In order to cut costs, you will have to consider CS.

The restaurant board has a lot of information on the restaurants.

OP are you asking about restaurants that are not inside any of the WDW resorts (hotels) or are you asking about restaurants that are offsite- as in Kissimmee or Orlando?

Frankly, there are hundreds - from fast food chains like McDonalds to family chains like Waffle House and Chili's and Bahama Breeze to pizza chains like Giordano's to unusual chains like Cafe Tu Tu Tango to upscale chains and everything at CityWalk and a bunch of independent restaurants...

Try Yelp or TripAdvisor for recommendations. Or eat at The Mara a lot.

Outside of the resorts, but still on Disney property, it's still pretty much all Disney restaurants, with Disney prices. The only free-standing eatery I can think of is a McDonalds over by the All Star resorts. All other restaurants are in resorts, in theme parks (you'll need an admission ticket), or in DTD.

Once you get off property, there are hundreds of choices. Every restaurant chain you can think of has at least one location in the area, and many, many many independent places as well.

Will you have a car?

Thanks for that.

Looking more off site, I have the opportunity to still have a car for 2 days (during our stay) or I can hand it back 2 days early. Just trying to think how to get to these restaurants without too much hassle that are not on Disney property.

Without a car, getting to offsite restaurants from AKL will be time-consuming, at best.

You could take a bus to DTD Marketplace, and from there, walk down Hotel Plaza Blvd to the Crossroads shopping center out on Apopka-Vineland road. There's a Pizzeria Uno and a couple other places over there. From AKL, I would say to allow a minimum of an hour, possibly 90 minutes, each way. DTD buses from the resorts run less frequently than theme park buses, and it's a walk of about a mile from the DTD Marketplace bus stop to Crossroads.

I can't think of any other off property restaurants you can get to from AKL without using a car or a taxi.

If you take a cab to off-property restaurants, you're looking at cab fares of at least $15-20 each way, plus a tip.
