Restaurants off-site

There's a new book out called "Orlando Chow: Restaurants for the Rest of Us" by Bob Mervine.

The emphasis is on economical, off beat, funky chow hound types of places but it gives a nod to Mythos, V&A and some other Disney places.

I would avoid the Mcdonalds and Checkers at all costs. Many undesirables in the area and the places were dirty.

Buffalo Wild Wings is ALWAYS a solid choice for great wings and beer

If you have money to spend, go down I-Drive to Charley's steak house. It's been voted in the top 10 steakhouses in the nation several times!

And it's goooooood!

I completely agree. Charley's is fantastic.

Went in there expecting it to be like any other steak house on I drive - boy where we wrong. The server came over and asked if we would like the "steak Presentation". He brought out a huge platter of uncooked steaks and went through each one by maglite torch. Explained how they raise their own kansas steer till 18 months old, then went on to explain how they cook their steaks etc.

The food was fantastic. The service was second to none. The price............well we won't even go there.

Is that the same restaurant known as Beefsteak Charley?
no, this is a more upscale steakhouse. Beefsteak Charlie's (we don't have any around here anymore) was more of a "discount" place w/ free beer.

Beefsteak Charlie's is but a memory - out of business.

There is a Ruth's Cris Steak house on Sand Lake at Dr Phillips.

Another place that EVERYONE here should know about is The Dessert Lady which is up Kirkman Drive, on the other side of the bridge over the Florida Turnpike. Can't remember the name of the strip mall, but it's the first one on your left after you cross the bridge.

It's a dessert and wine bar and the desserts are among the best you've ever tasted. A bit on the pricey side ($7-$8), but worth every penny. Try the sky high key lime pie cake (yes, cake).
