Restaurants (especially Ohana) with a peanut allergy?

I am taking my younger sister with us in October, and she has a peanut allergy. I am not familiar with the allergy safe foods at Disney since my children have never had any types of allergies. Do they use peanut oil?

They do have a peanut sauce. I would speak with your server right away as they are very accommodating to folks with allergies.

personal preference on how allergies are managed, but we are not going to Ohana because of the peanut sauce brought to the tables and the higher risk of cross contamination. I have an allergic toddler. If your sister is of the age where she can avoid touching anything in the restaurant until you wipe it down and is OK with others eating peanuts in close proximity you may be fine.

Depending on the severity of the allergy, you can ask for allergy-safe foods for the allergic person, or you can ask that your table not receive the peanut sauce or that the entire table receive allergy-safe food. What you won't be able to do is control the parties at the surrounding tables. 9/10ths of them will have peanut sauce. If you are concerned about cross contamination via touch or possible accidental cross-contamination, keep that in mind.

She is the same age as my oldest, (unusual, I know. My mother decided to start over again apparently after I was grown, and out of the house ;)), But she is old enough to know not to touch, or eat the obvious foods with peanuts, but doesn't think about oils, sauces, etc so I will have to monitor those ingredients closely. Ohana is our absolute favorite, along with Boma, and I'm extremely nervous about the foods at both restaurants.

Most Disney restaurants can accommodate food allergies. Make sure you note your sister's peanut allergy on your ADRs. If you make them online, click Special Requests and tick off food allergies/intolerances for your party. Also, let the server know. It should be noted on your ADR, but sometimes they forget to check. We ate at Ohana several years ago with 2 peanut allergic kids. We requested no peanut sauce at our table. The bread, dessert and one of the sides (I think noodles) were unsafe, so they got mac and cheese kids meals and enormous bowls of vanilla ice cream instead of the regular food. At QS locations, tell the order taker about the allergy. They have ingredient info and can let you know what's o.k.

Thank you! Wow....I would have never thought about that dessert being unsafe :scared:...Yes, I'll definitely make a note, and remind them again at check in.

1) Remember, YOUR food may be prepared without peanuts, but . . .
. . . you cannot halt those around you from having peanut-laden-food
. . . you cannot stop those walking around from having peanut residue on their hands or clothes and bumping you
. . . you cannot halt SERVERS from walking around with peanut-laden food
2) Based upon the severity of the allergy, Ohana might be a place to avoid.

That's our stance as well. We have a 5 yo with a peanut allergy, and while he can and does go to restaurants that have peanuts on/in some items, when the peanuts are a major part of the menu, like at 'Ohana or most Asian places, we avoid because of the cross contamination issue. We are going to do 'Ohana for breakfast, though, since it's standard breakfast food.
