Is it safe to eat and drink at Xcaret since it is primarily for visitors to Mexico? I don't want to end up sick, but I sure would like to eat some authentic food. Does anyone have experience with this park?

Be VERY careful with what you drink. I drank something called "rice water" at the restaurant, while my husband had coffee. We both ate exactly the same thing, and he was fine, but I was...well...use your imagination. It was NOT pleasant!

:sad2: Oh no! Is this a place we'd be better off packing a picnic from the ship to take with us? I'd hate to be sick for the rest of the trip.

We only ate the cheeseburgers and chips that were part of the package. Oh yeah, and cans of pepsi.

Which cruise offers the excursion to Xcaret!!!! That's one of my next vacation spots. If I can do it while doing the Disney Cruise........

My dad went and he had an awesome time. Him and his girlfriend did the "lazy river" type excursion, where you float on an inner tube down some river that goes underground, or something like that and they said it was amazing...
Which port is Xcaret in???????

Xcaret is offered as an excursion from Cozumel on a lot of cruise lines. It is a ferry ride away from the island, but sounds worth the time!

I forgot where it was. How exciting that you can do that while taking the cruise! My dad said it was a great experience and he wants to do it again.
I hope you decide to do it and have fun with it :)

Xcaret was the excursion in Cozumel. The food was good with package...The bad side the maps around the place were confusing.

Maybe they've changed it since your dad went. You float down the underground river in a life vest. We were disappointed because we thought there would be stuff to see in the river (like fish and stuff). That wasn't the case.

We thought about going in the snorkeling lagoon but it was very crowded and I'm not a fan of getting kicked in the head by a fin.

I have to agree that the maps weren't the best but at least the signs to some of the more major attractions were half decent (although we did walk in circles a couple of times).

We saw the turtles, manatees, jaguars and other animals. Don't expect the Aminal Kingdom.

Other than that we floated in the swimming lagoon for awhile (it was 90 degrees and I was glad to get in the water). Tubes to float in are free of charge.

Overall I would rate this excursion as "ok". If I were to go back to Cozumel I would likely go to either the ruins (although, I think I would have died from the heat and humidity if we had that day) or gone to one of the beaches recommended by people on these boards. It definitely would have been a lot less money.

A friendly warning:

If you are at all claustrophibic or not a very strong swimmer, stay away from the underground "lazy river" of Xcaret. you wear life jackets, not innertubes. My boyfriend and I were on this 10 years ago and we lost track of each other it was very crowded. I got caught in one of the currents almost like a whirlpool and had a VERY hard time getting out of it. Add to this that you are underground and it is dark except for where they have drilled holes through. It was NOT a good experience for me at all. The only saving grace to my day was that later that night my boyfriend proposed, and we have now been married for 9 years!
