We are going to try doing out of pocket dining for our next trip to try and save some money. If you are not using the dining plan, could a teenager order off of the kids menu? Are Disney restaurants picky about that?

For TS they usually offer an adult sized portion of the kid's item with an adult price tag.

For CS/QS they don't care.

QS doesn't care, TS some restaurants will let an adult order off the kid's menu and charge kid's price, some will charge adult price, it is up to them. I eat QS kids meals for breakfast and lunch all the time (not for saving money but just cause I don't eat alot) and tend to order appetizer and salad at TS (again not a big eater) but I have been known to order a kids meal at TS just because I like the choices better (Prime Time I'm looking at you)

An average teenager is highly unlikely to be full with the quantity of food of a child's meal. It is a very small portion of food intended for a 9 and under appetite.

Does Prime Time care if you eat off the kids menu? I can't eat as much that is on the adult menu at Prime Time but have never asked for kids menu.

I was specifically looking at Le Cellier, especially with it being a 2 credit restaurant and hoping it shouldn't matter.

That may be so, but after a hot sweaty day in the MK I'm not always that hungry either. There's appetizers to fill up on as well.

Personally, most children's offerings don't thrill me so I'd want something off the adult menu anyways. I do eat kids QS breakfast a lot (Mickey waffles!) and it's a decent size, but at a TS place I'd either share a meal or get an app & salad or something.

My 12 and 14 year old ordered a couple of things from kid menus this summer when they weren't as hungry in the heat (San Angel Inn is one I remember off the top of my head). I had the kids salmon at Sci-Fi with no problem either.

By the time our DS was a full fledged teen he was tired of the chicken nugget & pizza choices offered at most places. He also couldn't get full on a kids portion by then either. Heck, some adult portions leave him searching for more bread or something as well. I agree with another poster - if your budget doesn't allow for everyone to order off the adult menu then you should probably stick to CS meals. One TS place tho that is quite reasonable and only a smidge more expensive than CS is The Plaza at MK - you should definitely try to eat there so everyone can eat as adults. The most expensive thing I think is the meatloaf dinner at around $18-19. If you're dining OOP then the 2 credits used at Le Cellier wouldn't matter.

What are the best appetizers that you have tried that could replace a meal?
We haven't been for a couple of years so my information might be out of date but the flatbread we had at Chefs de France was great and at Kona you could easily go with pot stickers and sticky wings and fill up on the bread.

I love the Cobb Salad at Hollywood Brown Derby, usually I just get a cheese plate that I share with my grown son and then the appetizer portion of Cobb Salad (the entre portion is huge) for my entre. They have a 3 dessert plate with small portions of desserts that my son and I share since neither if us are huge dessert fans.
