Breakfast Pop Century food court
We drove all night from Atlanta, so we were ready for some nourishment this morning. Larry got the adult breakfast platter, which consisted of scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausage, bacon and a biscuit. He said the eggs, potatoes and biscuit were pretty good, but the breakfast meats were limp, soggy and greasy. I got the waffle platter, which is a large, fluffy waffle with the word Pop baked in the middle. This came with sausage and bacon. There was no sugar added syrup available in the food court, so I was able to use that for my waffle. I enjoyed the waffle very much, but agreed with Larry about the breakfast meats I wont be having those again at Pop! Tara was looking for something light, so she got the yogurt parfait, which is plain yogurt mixed with granola and strawberries. She enjoyed this very much, commenting that it was different but very satisfying for a light breakfast meal.
Lunch Flame Tree Barbecue, Animal Kingdom
I had the smoked barbecue chicken salad, which was simply prepared but tasted wonderful! It had romaine lettuce, tomatoes, chicken and a vinaigrette dressing I picked out the tomatoes because I do not care for them, but the rest of the salad was excellent and I would definitely order it again. Larry got a half rack of ribs, which he enjoyed. They were prepared with a dry rub, and although there was mild and hot barbecue sauce at the condiment counter to put on them if he wished, he decided to eat them as they were to cut down on the mess. They came with a small ear of corn and a small cup of baked beans. He said the ribs were very good, but he wanted butter for his corn and there was none to be had. He did not eat the beans, but I tasted them and they were so sweet I think they could qualify as dessert! Tara ordered the smoked turkey sandwich with lettuce and tomato on multi-grain bread. This came with a small cup of honey mustard dressing. Even after putting the dressing on the sandwich, she was not impressed with it she said it was dry and bland, and she did not finish it. We saw several people getting a fruit plate with honey yogurt for dipping, and these looked very good. We also enjoyed the seating at the back of the restaurant next to the water this was a lovely, peaceful place to have lunch. We would eat here again, but I think Tara would skip the turkey sandwich and try something else.
Dinner Le Cellier, Canada Pavilion in World Showcase at Epcot
Tara and I started with cheese soup (always a winner) with pretzel bread for dipping for me and sourdough and multigrain breads for Larry and Tara. Larry ordered the shrimp cocktail, which was so good he is still talking about it. It was prepared with a horseradish and wasabi slaw, and since he loves horseradish, he was delighted with this appetizer. For entrees, Tara ordered the prime rib, Larry got the New York strip, and I decided on the Le Cellier Filet Mignon with wild mushrooms. While all our meals were good, the stand out was my mushroom filet. It was served with creamy mushroom risotto and fried parsnips on top, and it was excellent. We all shared bites with each other, and decided that the mushroom filet mignon would definitely be everyones dinner entrée on our next visit. The service was outstanding and we enjoyed this meal very much we will definitely be back.

Breakfast Pop Century food court
None of us wanted a heavy breakfast this morning, so Tara and I got yogurt parfaits and a cheese danish to split. Larry also got a cheese danish and a banana. We were impressed once again with how good the yogurt parfaits were. The danishes were also fresh and very good, and all the other bakery items we saw looked wonderful.
Lunch Nine Dragons, China Pavilion at World Showcase in Epcot
Tara got a tropical smoothie here, and Larry and I stuck with ice water. He and I ordered the lunch sampler for two, which came with wonton soup, honey sesame chicken, canton beef, steamed rice and fortune cookies. Tara ordered pot stickers and an individual portion of honey sesame chicken for her lunch.
We enjoyed our wonton soup very much. It was seasoned with Japanese cilantro instead of green onions (which is what we are used to), but the cilantro worked well with the broth and wontons. Tara also enjoyed her pot stickers, which were served with a teriyaki based sauce that was somewhat spicy. The honey sesame chicken was chunks of chicken which were battered and fried, with a sweet sauce and sesame seeds on top this was very good. The canton beef consisted of strips of beef with onions and green pepper strips cooked in a brown sauce. The beef was so tender it melted in your mouth absolutely the best Chinese beef dish I have ever had! We were surprised at how good this lunch was especially since the restaurant was less than half full. I think this may be somewhat of an unrecognized gem in the World Showcase restaurants, and we will definitely be back again!
Dinner Wolfgang Puck Express, Marketplace, Downtown Disney
This restaurant is a cross between counter service and a sit down meal. You order your meal at a counter, where you pay and receive a placard with a number on it. You dispense your drink from the fountain next to the counter and then find a table. A server will bring out your meal when it is ready, and then refills your drinks or brings anything else you need. We were pleased with the service here, although finding a table took a moment or two because the restaurant was very busy!
Larry ordered the meatloaf, which came with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. He said this was okay, but not his favorite the meat appeared to be ground pork instead of hamburger, which is what he is used to. He said he would definitely eat here again, but would order something different next time. I got the chicken aioli sandwich, which was grilled chicken with lettuce, tomato, onion and a spicy wasabi sauce. It was served with homemade potato chips and I got a side caesar salad to go with it, which was made with romaine lettuce, grated parmesan cheese, croutons and caesar dressing. I enjoyed this meal very much, but it did not agree with my stomach and I had digestive difficulties later on. Taras meal was the stand out she got the margarita pizza, which was a cheese pizza with basil and tomatoes on it. Larry and I had a small taste of it, and it was outstanding it is made with a thin crust, four kinds of cheese, and fresh basil and it was wonderful! We all agreed we would order that on our next visit.

Breakfast 1900 Park Faire, Grand Floridian
This is a buffet breakfast, and it is my personal favorite of the breakfasts we have tried in WDW so far. The variety and quality of the food here is outstanding. One thing I tried that I have never had before and that I HAVE to tell you about is the cheese blintzes. Tara got one first, and was enthusiastic about how good it was, so I tried one too. These are a blend of ricotta and cottage cheese which is lightly sweetened and rolled in a crepe. You have a choice of topping them with vanilla or strawberry sauce. She and I chose strawberry sauce, and they are WONDERFUL they taste a lot like a cheese danish, except with a richer texture, and the strawberry sauce sets them off perfectly. I could cheerfully make a meal from these all by themselves. The other items we most enjoyed were the southwestern style scrambled eggs (with cheese, tomatoes, green peppers, onions and other spices), blueberry pancakes, Mickey waffles which were light and fluffy, and the fried potatoes mixed with strips of corned beef. Coffee, orange juice and milk are included with this breakfast, and Larry asked for chocolate milk to go with his OJ. The coffee here was particularly good and our server brought refills of ice water for us and no sugar added syrup for me in a timely fashion.
The characters today were Alice, Pooh, Tigger, the Fairy Godmother, and Mary Poppins. We enjoyed visits from each of them except Mary (who remains in the lobby). This breakfast was outstanding, and we will definitely be back again.
Two comments:
First, many WDW restaurants have added Minute Maid Light Lemonade to the soda options. This is a refreshing addition for those of us who have to watch our sugar intake, but dont want water or Diet Coke.
Second, those of you who have read my dining reviews in the past know that a meal at Flying Fish on the Boardwalk is a must do for us. We originally planned this trip so that we could enjoy a special Disney Dining Experience lunch at Flying Fish on Saturday, which was to be themed around shrimp. Since we love Flying Fish and shrimp, we decided to take a long weekend trip and enjoy this lunch. Unfortunately, after we had made our arrangements, the price for this meal was announced. At $85 per person, we would be spending $255 for lunch for the three of us. We realized that wine was included with this lunch and that this would definitely make the price tag higher, but since Tara is obviously too young to drink wine, I can no longer drink alcohol due to the medications I take, and Larry has never been a wine drinker, we did not feel that we would get our moneys worth out of this lunch. So we decided to take our trip as planned, but we did not have a Flying Fish meal this trip. Rest assured, however, that we will be going back there for our usual dinner on our next trip.
