I am very familiar with booking AR's at Disney, but this coming trip (last two weeks in August, we are staying mostly at RPR and intend spending at least 4 days (out of the 9) in the Universal parks. I am unsure, however, whether I need to pre-book any. The ones I was thinking of include Mythos, Margarittaville, Bubba Gump (or will this be counter service?), Hard Rock Cafe. We are also going to Busch Gardens and Seaworld but thinking we will do counter service to maximise time in the park.

What are your thoughts re booking meals in advance?

I think on the whole, you don't really want to be tied down to a specific time HOWEVER, Mythos is incredible ( food, atmosphere, service) and I would recommend making that reservation if you are going for dinner...you can call the restaurant direct - just go on the Universal website for the number.

I just made my reservation for Mythos but only because we will be dining there on Mother's Day (lunch)and I'm thinking the lines could be incredibly long!

have a great trip!

My thoughts on visiting the restaurants is that it's always best to go 1 hour before the peak times. For lunch, go at 11:30am, even if you are not starved, you'll be hungry by the time the food comes out. For dinner, go at 5pm. It's great to tour a park early in the morning, then visit Mythos for lunch. Same goes for the HRC, at 11:30am, you can get a table, at noon the line goes out the door.

Here's the thing, your FOTL card or a reservation may get you into the restaurant at a peak time. But then you're in a full restaurant, which means your server will be taking care of many tables, and the kitchen will be cooking for a full house. The FOTL card can't make your food appear any faster.

We were at Universal a few days ago and had lunch at Mythos. We arrived at 1pm (no reservations) and were seated straight away (party of six). There were a few empty tables inside and nobody seated outside at all.

The food is fantastic, well worth the wait if it turns out you can't get seated immediately! :goodvibes
