Family of 4: Me: 40, DH 43, ds 12 and dd 7
Restaurant report: Oct 29-Nov 3 Prices dont include tip or ap discount.
This is a description of where we ate during our 6 days at Universal. I have read reports that some families can get away with only 1 or 2 big meals per day but we had 3 meals almost every day, plus snacks! I budgeted $100/day for meals and snacks but averaged less.
Citywalk:
-Margaritaville: Late lunch, Very good-$45 included 2 margaritas (mango was excellent!), Nachos (fed dh and ds), veggie burger, kids meal and 3 sodas.
-Hard Rock Café: Supper, very good- cool atmosphere: $45, Nachos w/chicken, Portobello burger great!, kids meal: hot dog, kids meal pizza (AWFUL), 2 sodas, 1 beer.
Portofino Bay Hotel:
- Room Service, late supper; Pizza, $19.56 incl service fee ($2), tax ($1.11) and 18%gratuity.
-***Mama Dellas: Supper, We love this restaurant, Excellent food and Service. $64.77- antipasto, chicken parmesan, pasta w/veggies in a cream and red sauce, 2 kids meals, marshmallow shake (wow!), soda, 2 kids ice creams. I didnt have the timarasu this time, but its always been fabulous.
-Trattatoria: breakfast, BEST coffee on property, good, $30.95- eggs, fries, ham, toast, oatmeal w/fruit, pancakes, kids waffle, 2 coffees, 2 milks.
-Trattatoria: supper, overpriced, $51.70. We only ate here because Mama Dellas was closed and we were too tired to go very far. Penne Pollo, Grilled Cheese sandwich w/ pasta salad and fries ($10!), kids mac and cheese, kids chicken fingers, 2 milks, 2 gin and tonics. Service was very unprofessional. The waitress had us handing her our dirty dishes.
-Trattatoria: breakfast items to go, $6+. Since the Gelato restaurant wasnt open the mornings we were at the Portofino you could get coffee to go at the trattatoria. I also got 3 small muffins.
Hard Rock Hotel:
Sunset Grille-late breakfast: $36.45, 2 breakfast burritos, 2 kids waffles, milk, hot chocolate, 2 coffees. There was a buffet for $13 but no one was that hungry. I also asked the waiter about a continental breakfast buffet option Id heard about but he said nothing like that was available. We waited 10 min for a table, in an area that looked like it had a la carte breakfast items. Passed up at least 4 tables until we found a clean one. After the hostess seated us and a waiter took our order it was 20 minutes until our food came. The home fries were cold, the burrito was very good. Unfortunately, my ds started to feel very sick (we should have fed him earlier, he started to get a migraine) so dh took him back to the Portofino. The hostess very nicely boxed up their food so they could take it with them. She even gave my son a cup of sprite to take with him. My daughter and I ate quickly so we could get back to the hotel.
Universal Studios:
-Boulangerie: quick breakfast: $14.71- apple turnover, chocolate croissant, 2 blueberry muffins, 2 milks, and 2 coffees. Nice nutritious way to start the day!
-Richters Burger Company: lunch: $22.19- 2 fruit cups, cheeseburger basket, garden burger, liter of bottled water. Pretty good food, great fruit, good portions. Water was plenty to share.
Island of Adventure:
-Comic strip Café: lunch: $15, typical cafeteria food but several different types of food (Italian, American, Mexican, etc) and its possible to eat cheaply here: 9 pepperoni pizza, 2 mexican red rice, charra beans, 3milks.
-Blondies: closed: dh had to come back to Comic café and settle for a chicken and chips (6.99) and a large, flat Budweiser (4.79!)
****-Mythos: lunch, EXCELLENT! Fabulous service, food and atmosphere: $56.65- Tomato and buffalo mozzarella salad, ragout (sp?) of mushrooms, 2 kids linguine w/marinara sauce (included sodas) , grand sirloin burger, french apple tatin pie, kids banana split, 2 coffees, and the famous warm banana gooey chocolate cake. The banana cake is amazing, but I was so full I didnt know if I could finish it ( I had to restrain myself from licking the plate). My sons apple pie was more of a cobbler and came with cinnamon ice cream. The combination, together in one bite, was incredible. If youre server in Mefestus, aka Doug, tell him HI! He was great! As you can probably tell, this meal was one of the best of our vacation. I wish we had eaten here twice.
Off property:
Ponderosa: breakfast 2 different mornings, the kids liked eating here, $21.98- 4 buffets, 2 coffees, 2 drinks. All I can say is they used a great deal of butter on most everything. Where else could my dd daughter get Jell-O with her scrambled eggs. I was surprised they had a lot of non-breakfast items on the buffet as well. Bleah.
Trey Yuen Restaurant of Orlando, located across from wet nwild in the parking lot near Walgreens: supper, $58.62- chkn wings, egg rolls, spring rolls, seafood something (excellent), chicken something, Buddhas delight and veg fried rice, water. We ate like little pigs here. The food was very good, very friendly service. If you ever eat here, check out the ceiling. It is incredible, covered with very elaborate carvings.
